What is Myopia?

Myopia, is the most common cause of correctable vision loss globally.

At the moment 30% of the population are Myopic, it is estimated that by 2050 this will rise to 50% with at least one billion being at risk of sight loss.

Myopia also known as short-sightedness, means that you can see objects that are near well but struggle to see things in the distance.
A child is more likely to be Myopic if their parents are, but myopia is on the rise, and it is believed that this is due to children spending more time doing close up tasks indoors, such as phones, television, video games and computers.

What is the cause?
Myopia is caused when your child's eye is too long from front to back, or when the cornea is more curved than it should be. This causes distant (Far) objects to be blurry and near ones to be clearer.
Myopia generally gets worse as the child continues to grow, which will make them need a stronger prescription.

Headaches
Squinting

Long term risks can include;

Retinal tears and detachments.
Glaucoma.
Cataracts.
