Week 6 of our Men Matter programme

Our latest session was delivered by Donal Rowan and founder of the Resilio backed men's group, 'Mens Healthy Minds'. Donal kindly opened up his space and facilitated the evening, introducing us to the Hope Matters programme.

Thanks to all the fella's for being so open and contributing to the genuinely deep reflections on mental health, positivity, strength through vulnerability and changing the negative narratives we carry about with us.
Again, thanks everyone for agreeing to be a part of the group and for helping us explore, develop and sustain the Men Matter concept together.

And we have to plug the host too .....
We highly recommend The Sandwich Co. Omagh - the coffee is banging, the food is lovely and interior is stylish........oh yeah and the proprietor is handsome, humorous, kind, charming, quite young looking and very, very, very modest (was that everything from your list Donal 😉 ?)

Just a quick message to give our condolences to the Devlin family for the loss of our great friend Jean.
Jean was a long-term volunteer and supporter of Gortin Community Centre & Garden and both Karley and myself (Dave), really valued her assistance and friendship, whilst working there. Jean and her best mate Frances could be found on their hands and knees multiple times a week, weeding the beds and the paths in the garden. They just loved working, chatting, smoking and laughing away, full of banter, wicked conversation and endless craic!
But I'll always remember Jeans tenderness and care for her friends, keeping the garden looking well and her love for her family - she was always so proud of her kids and grandchildren. She was a great cook and a reluctant, talented artist too.
Much love to her Kieran and all the family. We'll miss you Jean x

Week 5 of our Men Matter programme

Back to Camphill Clanabogan this week, for a Sourdough Taster Session, with the Bakery Workshop Coordinator - Michael Hearle.

Massive thanks to Michael for hosting a fascinating 'hands-on' evening, which started off with us all shaping our own loaf and getting them into the oven, so they'd be cooked by the end.

Michael took us through all the different steps of the bread making process and many questions were asked, and answered!

Finally, after enduring the torture of smelling 10 loaves baking in the ovens, we got to the eating......and honestly, it was some of the best bread we have ever tasted. Warm soft, chewy, crispy bread, hot melted butter and fresh Camphill produced organic raw honey - it doesn't get better than that! We went home with our own loaves and a portion of sourdough starter and the men are looking forward to getting cooking at home.

Many thanks to Camphill Clanabogan for allowing us to use their facilities and for Michael's brilliant skills.

Week 4 of our Men Matter programme

Another brilliant session, this time at The Sauna Shack . Huge thanks to Finn and Jen for letting us book out the site for a couple of hours on a chilly Sunday morning.

A few guys started the morning with a walk in the mist to the top of Mullaghcarn, to check in with Darach, and enjoy a beautiful sunrise.
We were met by Finn at The Sauna Shack, in the tranquil setting of the Gortin Glens. First order of the day was a bacon sarnie breakfast, cooked on the firepit, with chat and burnt mincepies!!
This was followed by a calming Hatha Yoga and breathwork session in the centre, with Angela O'Loughlin, and an energising session in the sauna mixed with cold dips and a Hill Billy Hot Tub.
A lovely way to spend a Sunday morning with a good group of fellas and some great chat. We highly recommend visiting, if you haven't already!

Christmas Candle Workshop

Huge thanks to the talented Jessica Po***ck Willow & Wonder by Po***cks , for delivering one of her ever-popular candle workshops, at Rouskey Community Centre , on behalf of Gortin Wellbeing Collective CIC.
We really appreciate Jessica's efforts, preparation and the extra little touches, especially the labels. The group really enjoyed the session and were proud of their creations. By the end, everyone was 'giddy' from the smell of essential oils and the sugar hit from warm mince pies!
You can check out Jessica's family florists located in Castlederg - Po***ck's Flower World.
