This is such a common question!
If you are 45 or above then you are likely to be going through the perimenopausal process and you may want a blood test to confirm this.
But
Look at the graph above and see how chaotic the blood levels are likely to be.
The danger here is that taken on a ‘good day’, bloods may be effectively normal and not reflect the real situation.
Younger women may need a blood hormone test to exclude a premature menopause which has health consequences.
In short, we have to use common sense and not over test or over monitor women.
Blood tests have their place but in the perimenopause, as you can see, they could add more confusion and delays in management of symptoms.
