Congratulations to all who took part in todays Great North Run!🥇🙌😱

As we take the time to celebrate the achievement of completing the run and the fundraising for some amazing charities, we would also like to offer some post-run eye health care advice:👁

After a run, your eyes can sometimes feel irritated, dry, or blurry, especially in certain conditions (wind, cold, dust, or sweat)

👁 Flush Your Eyes
-If eyes feel gritty or irritated, rinse them gently with cool, clean water or use sterile saline drops.
-Avoid rubbing your eyes — this can worsen irritation or scratch the cornea.

💦 Use Lubricating Eye Drops
-Artificial tears can help restore moisture if your eyes feel dry or tight after the run.
-Avoid redness-reducing drops for regular use — they can cause rebound effects.

👀Cool Compress
-A clean, cool washcloth over your closed eyes can reduce puffiness, redness, or any mild inflammation post-run.

🚿Clean Around the Eyes
-Sweat can carry salt and debris into your eyes. Gently wash your face with water to avoid irritation or clogged oil glands (which can cause styes or dry eyes).

🚰Hydrate
-Dehydration can lead to dry eyes. Drink water after your run to rehydrate your body and eyes.

😎Wear Sunglasses Next Time
-UV rays, wind, and dust can stress your eyes during a run. Wraparound UV-protective sunglasses help shield them.
-Especially important for trail running or long runs in open, sunny, or windy areas.

👓Check for Contact Lens Issues
-If you wear contacts, consider switching to daily disposables for post-run hygiene or using sports-specific lenses.
-Always clean and store lenses properly post-run.

⚠Look for Warning Signs
-If you experience persistent blurry vision, pain, redness, or sensitivity to light, it may signal a more serious issue — consider seeing an eye doctor.

Good Luck to all those running the Great North Run tomorrow! 🏃‍♀️💪🥇

Wishing you all the strength, speed, and sunshine😎

Whether you're running for a cause, a personal best, or just the joy of the journey — you’ve already achieved something incredible just by getting to the start line.

See our Eye health tip for runners below:

😎Wear sunglasses with 100% UVA/UVB protection.
- Choose wraparound styles to block wind, dust, and debris.
- Consider polarized lenses to reduce glare.

💧Hydrate Properly
-Dehydration can cause dry eyes and eye strain.
-Drink water before, during, and after your runs.

👒 Wear a Hat or Visor
-Helps shield your eyes from direct sunlight and sweat.
-Reduces UV exposure even further.

👁Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes
-Dust, pollen, or sweat can irritate your eyes during a run.
-Use clean water or eye drops instead of rubbing.

💦Use Lubricating Eye Drops if Needed
-Especially important if you run in dry, windy, or cold environments.

👀Be Careful with Contact Lenses
-Use sports-specific lenses or glasses.
-Clean hands and lenses before and after runs to avoid infections.
-Consider daily disposables for better hygiene.

🍎Eat Eye-Healthy Foods
-Fuel your runs with foods rich in:
-Lutein & zeaxanthin (leafy greens, eggs)
-Omega-3s (salmon, flaxseeds)
-Vitamin C & E (citrus, nuts)
-Zinc (beans, whole grains)
