Today, I was gifted with some wonderful opportunities that instilled fear within me. Initially, I was confused about these emotions – opportunities are golden, right? So, I should feel ecstatic!

Eventually, once I sat with my fear, I realised that it was trying to protect me. Fear was acting like my own little safety blanket, allowing me to stay small and cushioned from things that I could not control. The truth is these opportunities are going to challenge me and possibly guide me to new avenues. I remembered that experiencing my fear did not have to mean that it would dictate my next steps, feeling fear also did not invalidate my excitement and shock.

The book, ‘Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway (Susan Jeffers, PHD)’ was like an anchor for me today, giving me some insight and space to look more into my fear. I was glad to have it on my bookshelf. I highly recommend it if you have not read it yet!

How do you experience your fear? Are there any books that ground you when you are experiencing a tough time?

Hey everyone, it has been a while. I had to take a little social media break :)

During my time away, I contemplated the effects that social media had upon myself (as a 32 year old woman).
I found that inadvertently, I was piling on too much pressure. I began scrolling through other people's posts, checking their engagement and declaring myself to have failed professionally due to this.
I compared achievements of people around my age, saw they had bought homes or made huge strides in their careers and began to feel overwhelmed by my own internalised expectations.
From this, I started to dread posting on here, feeling that what I had to say was irrelevant and was left feeling deflated and frustrated within myself. Why was it so easy for others? How long would it take before private practice became simple?

At this point, I had to start a daily check - in with myself. I think we can all relate to 'going through the motions' and 'pushing through'. We collectively jump over hurdles so often that we can forget to pause and check-in before we become overwhelmed or burnt out. It has supported me in being able to step away, recalibrate and dip my toes back into social media again.

The effects of social media are widely explored and openly spoken about, however I wanted to open this discussion to the older generations. Have you felt the pressures of social media? and in which way did they effect you?

Trust the process -
A phrase that I initially loathed in university that has now became one of my top self soothing mantras.

For me, ‘trust the process’ reminds me of my own motion, to trust my instincts and resilience. We are all in continual process, constantly flowing. Sometimes, we need to press the brakes, take a breath and trust that we are resilient enough to handle what we cannot control.

What does trust the process mean for you? 👇🏻

Keeping track of our mental health can be really useful, especially when we are not used to doing so. It may support us in recognising patterns, identifying tools to help and can be used with GP appointments. You can create your own to fit your individual needs, or use the template that I created :)
