Celebrating Spring at Serenity Yoga Studio

This week we are acknowledging the fresh green growth all around the natural world, and its power to generate joy in us. Beltane or May Day is the perfect moment to stop and appreciate nature, the exuberance and powerful life force in spring, requiring of us only that we pause for a moment and tune in. A fleeting moment in a year that is racing past, more precious for its ephemeral nature.
All week we’ll be meditating with nature and using Mother Earth’s immense healing power to restore ourselves.
We have a workshop to tune in Mother Nature on Saturday 11th May 10-12 noon at Gomer Infants School. For more info or book a space email yoga4health@yahoo.com or visit https://yoga4health.coach/
Best wishes and happy Beltane

Mother Earth has many ways of helping us heal, mentally and physically. Join us for two hours on Saturday 11th May 10 am-12 noon to explore how we can benefit from connecting to the Earth. We have a beautiful venue to be together in nature in the heart of Gosport, Gomer Infants school has opened its doors to us. There is a small woodland area where we can quietly connect with nature and use of the indoor facilities in case of rain and to make tea.
Connect with Earth physically: shoes made of plastics and spending a lot of time indoors means most of us are isolated from the earth, in an electrical sense. Bare feet on the ground allows electrons to flow into the body and that reduces inflammation. Chronic inflammation causes most common diseases like heart disease, cancer and autoimmune conditions.
Mentally: time spent surrounded by green leaves, bird song, ocean waves or any natural landscape is soothing - if we can step out of our worries and into the present moment to see it. It stimulates our rest and repair biology, we feel better.
Spiritually: in a living Universe, the Earth is a conscious being. To connect on a spiritual level all we need to do is set our intention to connect and be open. I’ll show you how. We’ll sit in meditation and invite in subtle energy, also known as prana or chi, which we can feel in our body. We can also connect via water. Ancient wisdom and recent research reveals water to be a living entity that responds to emotion. Water is synonymous with life! Water is life, and we can connect to the water in the earth and in our bodies to remember our unity.
We’ll use meditation, gentle yoga and mindfulness to connect with the Earth. Put down the doing mode and try just being!

Workshop On Stress Relief with Mindfulness and Gentle Yoga
Saturday 23rd March 10.15 for 10.30 start, till 12 noon
£10 per head,
Rowner Community Center main hall, Gosport, PO13 8AA
Contents:
INTRODUCTION
I teach stress relief because my husband has been ill for twenty years and I have learned to be sane, even to thrive, in uncertainty and discomfort. Anxiety and depression are not disfunction, but useful data from our body to show us something needs attention. How to hold our perceived faults with compassion.
BELLY BREATH MEDITATON
The most simple breathing technique ever and it feels great. The biology of stress versus relaxation and why it’s important.
GENTLE YOGA MOVEMENT
We ease muscles that get tight from stress, experience a breathing technique that slows us down, we become calmer. We listen to our aches and pains and imperfections with compassion. We do a simple practice that teaches us to relax in a little bit of discomfort and with practice we can do it in a traffic jam late for an appointment.
WALKING MEDITATION
Most of us spend more time wandering around in our head then we realise. It becomes a problem under high stress when we can’t stop it going round and round like a washing machine. Walking meditation shows us if we are looking into our minds eye and brings us into the present moment to look out of our physical eyes.
SHORT BREAK
MINDFULNESS DOWNLOAD
Some of the key insights from 7 years of mindfulness training: rewiring your brain to make conscious self-criticism and learned limitations, only then can we challenge them. How your mind recalls occasions when we had a past experience that was difficult and suggests it may happen again – so we are primed for an argument (for example) and may actually create the event we don’t want. Why we don’t need to believe all our thorts and what becomes more important instead.
DEEP RELAXATION
Yoga breathing technique called full yogic breath for deep relaxation. Listen to your body in your deeply relaxed state for insight into what you need for health and happiness.
To book your place pls email yoga4health@yahoo.com . £10 per head in advance or on the door while there are places available. Please bring a yoga mat and belt if you have one (any belt will do), spare belts will be provided. Water and comfortable clothes are essential, a blanket is nice for meditation if the weather is still cold.
Pls leave a comment if you have any questions.
Best wishes, Tabitha Evans

Workshop On Stress Relief with Mindfulness and Gentle Yoga
Saturday 23rd March 10.15 for 10.30 start, till 12 noon

• Understanding where our nervous system is now and what we need for health. Our body has inherent wisdom we may not be connecting with.
• Gentle movement to ease tight muscles and loosen up. Becoming aware of physical tension consciously is different from it existing in your body unconsciously.
• Guided meditation to understand the importance of relaxation for health, particularly if we have high stress for long periods.
• Mindfulness download about how our mind creates stress based on our past experience. If we had a bad experience in a similar situation, your mind will send you into fear to keep you safe, but things are unlikely to change if we stay in fear.
• Walking meditation reveals how much time we spend looking into our mind’s eye and not out of our real eyes at the present moment. We miss the beauty of the sky, the bird song, and sometimes we can’t stop worrying. We get stuck going round and round in our thoughts.
• Ending with pranayama, practice a simple yoga breathing technique for complete relaxation.
Stress relief is a skill that can be learned. We can even learn to live without the vast majority of fear we have experienced. This workshop introduces the possibility of changing our relationship to stress and techniques to put that into practice. I have used yoga and mindfulness to not only survive my husband’s chronic ill health, but to thrive. I share the many techniques I have picked up along the way to find peace in a frantic world. If we are chronically stressed, relaxation is not a luxury, it’s the opposite end of the seesaw to exhaustion and depression or acute anxiety. It’s essential to maintain our health. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and the movements can be adapted to allow participation whatever our ability.

Workshop On Stress Relief with Mindfulness and Yoga?

Is anyone interested in a 90 minute in-depth experience of tools and techniques to manage stress in a more constructive way?

I’ve been chatting with a local women’s group about holding a one-off workshop to share what I know about stress relief and would like to know if there is interest and support for the idea.
I have suggested a Saturday morning at the Rowner Community Center, 10.15 for 10.30 start and ending at 11.45. We’ll have plenty of time to get into some details without rushing (time pressure is a major stressor!) and gets lots covered. The workshop content includes:
• Understanding where our nervous system is now and what we need for health. Our body has inherent wisdom we may not be connecting with.
• Gentle movement to ease tight muscles and loosen up. Becoming aware of physical tension consciously is different from it existing in your body unconsciously.
• Yoga pranayama, practice a simple breathing technique for complete relaxation.
• Mindfulness download about how our mind creates stress based on our past experience. If we had a bad experience in a similar situation, your mind will send you into fear to keep you safe, but things are unlikely to change if we stay in fear.
• Ending with a guided meditation to understand the importance relaxation is for health. If we are chronically stressed, relaxation is not a luxury, it’s essential to maintain our health.
I have lots of other topics for workshops, so it could become a regular event if there is interest, for example:
• Pelvic floor and lower back health
• Managing difficulty moments constructively using mindfulness
• Nature for stress relief and healing (outside when it warms up!)
• Mystical sacred space for healing
Priced low at £10 per head to get a good crowd attending, we need eight participants to cover the cost of the room go ahead and. There is only one date available in March at the time if writing at Rowner community center which is Sat 23rd, or early April.
Please comment if you are interested in attending, or email yoga4health@yahoo.com. Suggestions about time and location are useful, if handouts of mindfulness points are helpful, for example. Your feedback on the content is valuable. I will book the room if there is sufficient interest and come back with an update.

Best wishes to all, Tabitha Evans, Yoga4healthcoach

TRAINING TO RELAX
Relaxation isn’t valued much in our society. In fact, it’s viewed as a luxury, connected with holidays and expensive spas, and held as unattainable for every day, perhaps just on special occasions.
No.
Relaxation is vital. It is the other end of the seesaw from stress. The stress all around us needs relaxation as its antidote. It’s essential for a healthy body and mind in the current madness.
We practice relaxing in my gentle yoga class. We soften all our muscles and feel our body respond to the rest and digest biology. It feels as good as a hot bath.
We even create a little bit of discomfort and practice relaxing at the same time. For example, we lie on the floor, put a belt around one foot and take that up to the ceiling, using the belt to bring tension for a big stretch in the back of our leg. This can be uncomfortable, especially if we get both legs involved. However, this is one of the most important practices we use! We train ourselves to relax under pressure. We deliberately soften our forehead and shoulders, take a long, smooth breath and allow that stretch to be there. Allow it to be a little uncomfortable (not teeth grittingly painful, just a little bit of discomfort). And if you can do it here, you can do it in a traffic jam, in a difficult conversation.
We practice relaxing so we can restore ourselves quickly after stress. We know what to do because we’ve practiced and have choices about how to go about doing it.
Stress will continue to happen. Let’s learn to balance stress by bringing in relaxation.

Easy Restorative Meditation For Beginners
This is a good practice for a beginner to meditation, its short and simple. It’s a pause in your day, to relax your body and rest. We gently guide the breath to become a little deeper so our nervous system gets the message its safe for us to relax. Our rest, repair and digest biology gets to work when we relax, healing our body, digesting food better, giving our immune system more energy. 10 minutes doing nothing can be valuable! Altho this is ideal for beginners, even if you are an experienced meditator a guide to 10 minutes pause can be wonderful. Simple, easy. Altho our culture doesn’t value rest as much as action (it doesn’t make as much money!) we need a balance of both in our lives.

SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER
Imbolc is the first festival after the winter solstice, and it marks the first signs of spring. Imbolc means ‘yews milk’, recalling the lambs born at this time. It is usually around 2nd or 3rd February but takes its cue from the sun reaching 15 degrees of Aquarius in the tropical zodiac.
As our minds are drawn to snowdrops, daffodils, and spotting the first bumble bee, I love to bring in the feeling of rebirth and new growth into my meditation practice. Altho there may be a lot of winter left, it always inspires me to connect to the turning of the seasons and anticipate the warmer days to come.
Imbolc speaks of the potential for new growth in us. We can be prompted by the moment to consider what we wish to create in the season of growth ahead. We can choose to be inspired by nature and empowered by nature to grow something new.
You might like to try this guided meditation to connect to the energy of spring, and ask yourself what is it that you are creating this spring.
https://insig.ht/NNbpR9FoRGb?utm_source=copy_link&utm_medium=live_stream_share
As well as being relaxing and resetting after a hard day, we can dream in something different to grow as the leaves expand.

CHRONIC PAIN
“The pain is gone!” A lovely lady said this to me after yoga and meditation on Tuesday.
She struggled during some of the physical movements, and I advised she proceed carefully, listen to her body and go at her own pace. She kept going despite some puffing, moaning about her arthritic knee and laughing. We had a gentle stretch and lay down for a breathing exercise at the end called full yogic breath. I guided the participants to soften and relax their bodies and then thru the breathing technique for about 15 minutes.
At the end we gradually returned to our normal state of consciousness, and she said it “its stopped hurting, the pain is gone!”.
I usually feel a tear in my eye when something like this happens because I am so grateful for the power of yoga and that I can help people in this way. It happens quite often.
