A Foot Health Practioner is a trained healthcare that provides routine, preventative, and maintenance footcare. Primarily keeping the feet comfortable and free from foot problems.
I/FHPs do not diagnose medical conditions or perform surgical procedures. My role is centered on foot health maintenance and early identification of issues that may require early referral to another professional.
As a Foot Health Practioner, we have core responsibilities...
๐ฃ Routine Foot care - Nail cutting, managing thickened nails, and preventing ingrown nails. Removal of hard skin, reduction of corn, treatment of cracked heels. Advice of creams to use. Identifying skin conditions, fungal nails
& recognizing when a referral is required.
๐ฃ Preventative Foot Health - I/we play a key role in preventing complications by monitoring foot condition changes, identifying early warning signs, or pressure points/ skin breakdown. Advising on foot hygiene, supporting individuals with limited mobility for the best way to do self care.
This is particularly important to high-risk clients such as diabetics or circulatory problems.
๐ฃBasic Assessment & Observation - While I/we do not diagnose medical conditions, I am trained to observe the foot structure and skin conditions. Identify poor circulation, neuropathy, infection, and pressure damage.
I have a Foot Health Diploma, ongoing CPD training, and extra training every year to make sure I have the best knowledge of my clients.
You can find me on the Foot Health Register http://footreg.org/
Hope this gives people an insight on what I/we actually do ๐
