Another key group of symptoms to look out for is changes to the v***a.
Vulval cancer affects around 1,350 women and people with v***as a year in the UK.
Everyone's v***a looks, feels and smells different, so it's really important to get familiar with yours and know what is normal for you.
We are all aware we should be checking our breasts and chests, but it is just as important to check your v***a for any changes which aren't normal for you.
Here are the key symptoms to look out for and get checked by a doctor:
-A lasting v***al itch
-Pain or soreness
-Thickened, raised, red, lighter (white or yellow) or darker patches on the skin of the v***a
-An open sore or growth visible on the skin
-A mole on the v***a that changes shape or colour
-A lump or swelling on the v***a
If you have had a persistent v***al itch, and were given a thrush treatment, if this didn't work, do go and see your GP again. Don't be afraid to ask to be examined either.
We know gynae examinations and appointments can be difficult for a number of reasons. Our Ask Eve nurse service is always here to help. You can get in touch for free and confidential information and support on nurse@eveappeal.org.uk or 0808 802 0019.
