The Old Vicarage

The Old Vicarage The Old Vicarage is a family run residential care home situated in the village of Allithwaite. We produce a quarterly newsletter detailing all our activities.

We specialise in care for the elderly and physically frail, including those with dementia. The Old Vicarage is a vibrant, friendly place with lots going on and
strong links with the local community. The wellbeing and dignity of our residents is hugely important to us and therefore our staff are recruited for their values of kindness, compassion and patience. Whilst most of our residents are with us full time, when we have vacancies we are able to provide a respite service. We can also offer day care to local people.

Everyone had a fantastic time at our Teddy Bears Picnic which was a salute to Pudsey Bear and the BBC Children in Need fundraiser. As the photos show, there was lots of laughter as Alice, dressed as Pudsey, created 'lots of wonderful games to play'.

It's beginning to get that time of year when the Christmas season comes to mind, hence the Christmas Decorations activity. There will soon be lots of sparkle and a busy events calendar!

Today, Alice will be exploring the history and significance of Teddy Bears. Memories of our most favourite teddies will be enjoyed, as well as taking a look at the role of the teddy bear on film and in books. Oh yes! Not forgetting the importance of Pudsey!

On Tuesday, we will pay our respects with a Remembrance Day Concert and sing hymns with The Old Vicarage Voices Choir. On Friday, we will not be going down to the woods to see a Teddy Bears' picnic, as they will be enjoying Pudsey's Children in Need Event in our warm home!

We shall remember them and will honour, with a two-minute silence on Tuesday, 11th November at 11 AM.

We died and never knew.
But, well or ill,
Freedom, we died for you.
Went the day well?
When you go home,
Tell them of us and say,
“For your tomorrows,
These gave their todays”.

“When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Their Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today”

John Maxwell Edmonds (1875 -1958)
