At our GP practice, we recognise that veterans may face unique mental health challenges as a result of their service. Conditions such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can affect veterans long after they leave the Armed Forces, and timely, appropriate support is essential.
We are committed to providing a safe, respectful environment where veterans feel comfortable discussing their mental health and seeking help. Support may include access to NHS mental health services, referrals to specialist care, and signposting to veteran-specific support organisations.
Accessing the right support
If you are a veteran, please ensure you let us know so your records are updated accordingly. This allows us to ensure you are identified correctly and can be supported with priority access to appropriate NHS services where applicable. Further information about services available to support veterans is available in this booklet:

Urgent mental health support
If you need urgent mental health help, you can contact the NHS urgent mental health helpline by calling NHS 111 and selecting option 2. This service is available 24 hours a day.
If you are in immediate danger or feel unable to keep yourself safe, please call 999 or attend your nearest A&E department.
You can also contact Samaritans free on 116 123, available 24/7 for confidential emotional support.
Looking after mental health is just as important as physical health. No one who has served should feel they have to cope alone.
