“My sisters and I approached Right at Home for help with our parents, aged 96 and 87. We started with two hours a day but quickly increased this, including weekends, as we were so impressed with the care provided. We also trialled overnight care, which was excellent.

It was incredibly helpful to be able to adjust care and hours at short notice. The office team were always friendly, accommodating and quick to respond.

The carers who visited our parents’ home cannot be praised highly enough – completing household tasks to a high standard and often taking the initiative where they saw something needed doing. The companionship has been first class, and both of my parents have really enjoyed their daily chats.”

Thank you for trusting us to support your family. Providing flexible, dependable care at home – with genuine companionship at its heart – is what we’re here for.

Quality care looks different for everyone.

For one Client, it might be a weekly visit for companionship and help with meals after a hospital stay. For another, it could be regular morning support that gently increases as needs change.

At Right at Home, our care grows with you without the disruption of changing providers. Familiar CareGivers, consistent routines, and flexible support mean everything feels steady and reassuring.

Because the right care should always fit around your life, not the other way around. 💙

Easter is a time when families and friends come together and celebrate, but the change in routines can be challenging for people living with dementia.

Here are six tips to support people living with dementia to be safe and included over the Easter period.

Keep things familiar: Keep meals as close to their usual time as possible. Make sure the person gets enough rest and sleep. Consider arranging visits so there are less people around together.

Try themed activities: Decorate Easter eggs, write Easter cards, or make Easter foods such as simnel cake. Consider adapting Easter egg hunts with brightly coloured eggs in slightly easier locations.

Find dementia-friendly services: Visit a church with a dementia-friendly service and share stories about past Easter services. Watch Easter celebrations on television or online, for example, or playing hymns they enjoy.

Have a quiet area or room: Try to designate one room or space in the home a ‘quiet area’ where your loved one can relax. Use headphones to listen to music and block out the noise. This will allow the person to enjoy the celebrations at their own pace.

Consider mealtimes: Be mindful of what the person usually eats – a full plate can be daunting for someone who has difficulties with eating. Consider smaller portions or finger foods instead.

Plan ahead: Think about minimising situations where the person with dementia is put on the spot to remember names. Consider giving a gentle reminder each time a new person arrives, or ask people to introduce themselves.

[Image description: An Easter egg-themed infographic titled 'Six tips to help support a person with dementia during Easter features six illustrations, including: a calendar with a moon and clock; two Easter eggs; a church; the silhouette of a person speaking crossed out; an alarm clock with cutlery either side; and a calendar containing ticks. In the same order, the tips read: Keep things familiar; Easter activities such as decorating eggs; Consider dementia-friendly services; Have a quiet area or room; Think about food and mealtimes and Plan ahead.]

Reminder - British Summer Time starts this Sunday⏰

When the clocks go forward it can be confusing for all of us, but it can be especially disorientating for people living with dementia, who might struggle with awareness of time.

As our days get longer and brighter, people living with dementia may find it harder to differentiate between 6am and 6pm. This disrupts their natural circadian rhythm and makes it hard for them, and those who care for them, to ensure they get enough sleep.

Thankfully there are a few easy things we can do to help minimise any disruption.

🌙 Consider having dinner and going to bed an hour earlier on Saturday. This means the person you’re caring for can still get enough sleep and can wake up at their usual time on Sunday, and that their routine will only be different for an evening rather than the whole day.

📆 Keep to a regular routine during the day and at bedtime. This can help to regulate a disrupted body clock. Doing regular activities at the same time each day – for example, going for a walk after breakfast – can help a person with dementia make sense of the time.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle exercise during the day can help the person feel sleepier during the evening, meaning they’ll go to bed at their usual time. If this isn’t an option, keeping them active during the day can have a similar effect. You could also consider using blackout curtains to reduce sunlight in the evenings.

⏰ Invest in an auto-setting clock. Some people with dementia can find it tricky to read a clock face, so often digital clocks are easier. You can also get clocks that show the day of the week and date as well as the time, and for some people a day/night clock can help them distinguish what time of day it is.

Care at home means preserving independence with dignity ❤️

For many people, it is the comfort of familiar routines, the freedom to make their own choices, and the reassurance of staying in a place that feels like home 🏡 It is about being supported in a way that respects who you are, not taking over your life, but walking alongside you as you continue to live it.

These everyday moments are what truly matter ✨
