😴 Restorative Sleep - Quality OVER Quantity! πŸ’€

Happy Sleep Awareness Week! The perfect way to celebrate REST, bringing pillow-time into full focus 🧐

Sleep is crucial to our overall health, but it's quality rather than quantity that counts! Aiming for around 7 hours sleep is a great goal, however it's still possible to wake up feeling wrung out & exhausted the next morning even if you are hitting that dream quota! Does this ring true for you? πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

As a society we vastly undervalue sleep, even though we will spend approx. 1/3 of lives sleeping. Sleep helps our bodies recharge, repair and restore, did you know it also detoxifies our brain? Not getting enough sleep can unbalance your hormones, leading to digestive & gut health issues due to increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Poor quality sleep has been linked to neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, depression, reduced immunity and lower life expectancy, so taking care of our sleep hygiene is worth the extra effort!!

Here are some of my top tips for better quality BIG Zzzzzz's:

🌱 Eat REAL, fresh & whole foods

🍰 If you choose to eat something sweet, ideally eat it right after you've had your lunch.

πŸͺ€ Try not to eat 2 hours before bedtime

β˜• Limit caffeine after noon

πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ Daily movement / exercise

πŸ“΅ Reduce screen time atleast 1 hour before bed

πŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Practice relaxation techniques e.g breathwork / meditation / mindfulnessΒ 

⏰ Try to establish a regular bed & morning wake-up time.

Fixating on a number and how much you weigh has NOTHING to do with how healthy you feel - FACT!

πŸ€” What can I add? πŸ€”

During a coaching session with a client last week, we were looking at simple ways we could incorporate more protein into her daily meals. I'm less about taking away from what you enjoy eating, instead I prefer to look at ways we can ADD more of the good stuff to our plates.Β 

Every time I prepare a meal, I love asking the question "What can I add?" This is my natural go-to as a chef because I'm always looking for ways to elevate a dish's flavour, texture or colour appeal.

This could look like:

🌱 a handful of mixed seeds

🌰 a sprinkle of toasted nuts

🫘 roasted pulses (such as chickpeas)

🍳 a couple of poached eggs

πŸ₯œ a swirl of peanut butter

πŸ₯₯ a dollop of yoghurt

Each of the above is a brilliant way of adding in extra protein to everyday dishes such as porridge, soups, salads or stews.

To my roasted veg & lentil soup today I've added roasted chickpeas, pumpkin seeds & crispy kale πŸ˜‹ Filling, delicious and plant protein packed 🌱πŸ’ͺ🏻

I'm gently re-emerging from my, slightly extended, break away from 'worky' social media... It seems a detox was needed more than expected! Honestly I find this 'social' side of business a little tricky sometimes (anyone else with me?? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ) and it doesn't always come that easily. However, I do love the inspiration and connection that it brings.

So I step back in tentatively, but with excitement and curiosity about what the year ahead has in-store for LifeGlo.

I have used January to revisit and revamp my website (still a work in progress!) and to get clear about my business focus for 2025. I have had amazing support from Kerry at SAC Consulting in partnership with - she has been the perfect gem of knowledge and motivation I've needed to both challenge and guide me. Her business coaching sessions have re-enforced the amazing value of coaching - as a health coach myself it is a brilliant reminder of just how powerful coaching is, in all areas of our lives! Coaches need coaches too πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ˜†

I'm excited to share more of what's happening behind the foodie scenes too, however, this already feels like a very wordy post! Keep your eyes peeled for the next installment πŸ‘€

Thank you so much to all who came, and to all our wonderful customers for supporting us - we love to feed you almost as much as we love hearing your glowing feedback ✨πŸ₯° Looking forward to seeing you all again in the New Year for more nutrious deliciousness βœ¨πŸ˜‹
