PART-TIME ROWING MANAGER (1 day per week)
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Rowing Manager to oversee the management and development of our rowing programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting rowing and careers on the river for those already engaged in the sport and developing their rowing capability as an apprentice or young watermen, for the purpose of taking part in both traditional rowing events and ultimately the Doggett’s Coat and Badge wager. This role would also be responsible for organising rowing events, seeking suitable rowing clubs or centres for training purposes and facilitating the maintenance and upkeep of the fleet of Company sculling boats. This role is pivotal in promoting the rich heritage of rowing within our community and ensuring the continuation of our esteemed traditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Beginner Engagement:
•Develop and implement programs to attract and encourage our apprentices / young watermen/women to take up rowing.
•Provide introductory and ongoing training sessions, coaching and support to novice and advanced rowers.
•Introducing the individuals to rowing centres and clubs that best suit their location and access.
Competing for Doggett’s:
•Identify those that meet the criteria and capability to enter the Doggett’s Coat and Badge Wager, then plan their route to competing.
•Provide training programmes and coaching support leading up to the first year of entry and subsequent years for which they qualify.
Organise rowing sessions and outings:
•Plan a regular diarised monthly event, where everyone has the opportunity to come and try rowing at the Royal Docks Rowing Centre or other locations.
•Facilitate weekly group outings amongst all levels of capability, as well as one on one sessions for those progressing to Doggett’s.
•Manage arrangements and implementation of an annual rowing camp at Henley or other remote location to include scheduling, transportation, and accommodation where necessary.
•Support the Company Bargemaster to promote participation in traditional events.
Boat Maintenance and Management:
•Oversee the maintenance, repair, and storage of the company's fleet of sculling boats, blades and other associated equipment.
•Ensure all rowing equipment is in good working condition and complies with safety standards.
•Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for the procurement of new equipment and parts.
Safety and Compliance:
•Ensure all rowing activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations.
•Conduct regular risk assessments and implement safety protocols.
•Provide training and guidance on safe rowing practices to all participants.
•Ensure all third-party coaching and rowing facilitation, is being done in a safe manner with fair and compliant practices.
Company Engagement:
•Act as an ambassador for the Company of Watermen and Lightermen within the rowing community.
•Build and maintain positive relationships with members/ volunteers who assist with rowing activities.
•Promote the company's rowing heritage and traditions
Qualifications:
•Proven experience in rowing coaching, preferably at school, youth and novice levels.
•Strong understanding of rowing coaching processes and techniques, training methods, and equipment maintenance.
•Ability to inspire and motivate rowers of all levels.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to rowing.
•Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the sport.
•Valid coaching certifications and first aid qualifications are highly desirable.
