Case of my little patient: Recovery after torticollis and birth trauma
A 10‑month‑old boy was brought to me with the following concerns:
👶 Severe torticollis – the first cervical vertebra (C1/atlas) was rotated to the right by 1.9 mm
👶 Head and facial asymmetry
👶 Increased shoulder tone – shoulders constantly raised, left arm less active than the right
👶 Poor sleep – slept with eyes open and woke frequently
👶 Delayed motor development – struggled to hold his head up, disliked lying on his tummy
👶 Two episodes of loss of consciousness in early infancy
Initial investigations (October 2024):
🩺 Neurosonography: Increased periventricular echogenicity – signs of past hypoxic changes
🩺 Doppler scan: Impaired venous drainage, signs of congestion
🩺 Cervical spine ultrasound: Significant C1 rotation (1.9 mm) and asymmetry at the atlanto‑occipital joint
What I did during treatment sessions:
👩⚕️ Gentle correction of the atlas (C1) and cervical spine
👩⚕️ Cranial work – addressing the frontal, occipital and temporal bones
👩⚕️ Release of shoulder and neck tension
👩⚕️ Techniques to improve venous and lymphatic drainage
👩⚕️ Work on the abdomen and diaphragm to support digestion
Results after treatment and follow‑up scans (February – May 2025):
🎉 C1 rotation reduced from 1.9 mm to 0.2 mm – neck mobility improved, head position corrected
🎉 Neurosonography: Echogenicity normalised, brain structure now age‑appropriate
🎉 Doppler scan: Venous outflow significantly improved, congestion almost resolved
🎉 Shoulder girdle: Reduced hypertonicity, left arm now active and functional
🎉 Sleep: Deeper, with eyes closed during rest
🎉 Overall development: Caught up with motor milestones, more active, calmer and less fearful
Conclusion:
The treatment helped improve circulation, release muscular restrictions and restore proper cervical and cranial function. As a result, the child’s sleep, motor skills and overall development showed clear improvement.
