🦠 In light of the recent outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease we are seeing an uptake in queries regarding this vaccine, please be aware of the following:
🩼As there is currently no Men B vaccination programme for adults as part of the NHS Vaccination Schedule, we are unfortunately unable to offer the vaccine to adults.
The Men B vaccine was introduced into the routine childhood immunisation schedule from 1st May 2015.
This means:
• if you are a teenage or young adult born before 1st May 2015, you will not have received the Men B vaccine as part of the NHS Vaccination Schedule.
If you wish to receive this vaccine you must seek and pay for this privately, we do not offer this at the practice.
• The Men B vaccine is now routinely offered to babies as part of the NHS childhood schedule at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 12 months (1 year old)
• Men A,C,W & Y is offered routinely around 14 years in the school vaccination programme. Individuals who have not received it at this stage remain eligible until their 25th Birthday.
If your child is eligible for the vaccine, they will automatically be invited as part of the routine schedule.
If you have any concerns about meningitis symptoms or believe someone may be unwell, please seek urgent medical advice.
