I am a fully qualified and insured NAVP Veterinary Physiotherapist, based in Essex, Physiotehrapy is mainly used for horses, dogs and cats, but can benefit a wide variety of animals! I use soft tissue massage and mobilisation, stretching, myofascial release, kinesio taping, remedial exercise, and electrotherapy to optimise healing following injury or surgery, and address areas of muscular imbalanc

e, pain, tension, restricted range of motion, and abnormal functional movement patterns. Physiotherapy can also be hugely beneficial in managing ongoing conditions, such as osteoarthrtis. For competitive animals, physiotherapy can also improve athletic performance and reduce injury risk. I am also a member of the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP). RAMP has been created to give owners and referring veterinarians peace of mind that the practitioner is fully qualified and insured, only works within the their scope of practice, and demonstrates a professional level of education and clinical experience. http://www.rampregister.org/

Once an appointment has been booked, an initial history form will be e-mailed to you, for completion, prior to the first session. At the start of every session, a comprehensive static and dynamic assessment will be performed to identify most appropriate treatment options, and monitor progress. After each session, the owner will receive a comprehensive session report and homework plan. Equine Physiotherapy Session: £40
Small Animal Physiotherapy Session: £30

I will also not be able to work on the animal if there are any signs of lameness/ significant gait abnormality. Your veterinarian should be your first point of contact for any major concerns.

🐾 Is your dog just “slowing down”… or could they be uncomfortable? 🐾

As our dogs get older, changes can happen gradually, making them easy to miss.

Have you noticed your dog:
🐶 Struggling to get up after resting?
🐶 Hesitating on the stairs or jumping into the car?
🐶 Slowing down on walks or tiring more easily?
🐶 Becoming less playful or interactive?
🐶 Wanting less fuss or avoiding other dogs?
🐶 Seeming grumpy, withdrawn, or different in behaviour?

These changes are often dismissed as “just old age”, but they can actually be signs of pain or discomfort associated with arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions.

A study in 2024, evaluated the prevalence of osteoarthritis (OA) in dogs over 8 years old (Roitner et al., 2024). Prevalence of OA was 39.2%, 57.4%, 35.9% and 36.4% for the shoulder, elbow, hip and stifle, respectively. Another research paper suggests that OA affected the life span of 11.4% of dogs in their trial (Anderson et al., 2018).

As a RAMP registered Veterinary Physiotherapist working throughout Essex and surrounding areas, I provide thorough assessments and tailored treatment plans to help support comfort, mobility, and quality of life in older dogs.

Treatment may include:
✨ Manual therapy, including massage, myofascial release, stretching and mobilisations
✨ Kinesiology taping
✨ Electrotherapeutic modalities, including LASER, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy and Winback Tecartherapy
✨ Tailored remedial exercises

Early intervention and ongoing support can make a huge difference in helping our older companions stay happy, comfortable, and active for as long as possible 💙

If you would like to discuss whether physiotherapy could help your dog, please feel free to get in touch.

✨ WINBACK TECARTHERAPY ✨

Winback Tecartherapy is an advanced, non-invasive therapy that uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes from within the tissues. It works by increasing circulation, improving tissue elasticity, reducing pain and supporting faster recovery.

One of the biggest benefits of Winback is that it can be used at all stages of healing — from acute injuries and post-operative recovery through to chronic conditions, maintenance and performance support.

Winback Tecartherapy can help horses with:
🐴 Muscle soreness and tightness
🐴 Back pain and reduced flexibility
🐴 Tendon and ligament injuries
🐴 Arthritis and joint stiffness
🐴 Reduced performance or discomfort under saddle
🐴 Compensation patterns and muscular imbalance
🐴 Recovery following exercise or competition

The system also incorporates:
⚡ TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) to help reduce pain and discomfort
⚡ NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) to aid muscle activation, strengthening and rehabilitation

By combining manual therapy with advanced technology, treatments can be tailored specifically to your horse’s needs to optimise comfort, movement and performance.
Suitable for competition horses, leisure horses, veterans and rehabilitation cases alike — helping your horse move and feel their best. ✨

Feel free to get in touch if you would like more information or to discuss how Winback Tecartherapy could help your horse.

🌟Rhian Williams PGDip Vet Physio EEBW MNAVP FHEA 🌟

I am a RAMP Registered Veterinary Physiotherapist based in Chelmsford, providing services across Essex and the surrounding areas. I initially qualified as an Equine Sports Therapist and Equine Body Worker in 2015, before going on to qualify as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in 2017.

I pride myself on performing extensive, detailed physical examinations, allowing me to build a holistic overview of each animal’s musculoskeletal health. This enables me to deliver truly tailored, bespoke treatment sessions alongside carefully considered remedial exercise programmes.

Alongside my clinical work, I have a strong passion for anatomy and education. I deliver anatomy workshops for students in their clinical years and for new graduates, helping to build confidence and deepen their understanding. I also offer clinical placements, giving students the opportunity to shadow my work and gain hands-on experience with specific cases, treatment modalities, and electrotherapies to further develop their practical skills.

Equine Clinical Placements and Anatomy Workshops

Alongside my physio clients, I also offer equine placement days for students in the clinical year or recent graduates to help improve their confidence. Placement days can be individual or in groups and can include a variety of activities...

- Shadowing me for physiotherapy sessions
- Performing physiotherapy sessions yourself
- Assessing different horses
- Practising specific techniques, such as range of motion assessments, massage and stretching
- Getting hands on with different electrotherapeutic devices, including LASER, H-wave and radiofrequency therapy

I also offer anatomy workshops for Veterinary Physiotherapy students or recent graduates. Similarly these sessions are tailored to you needs. They can be individual, in pairs or groups. They can be run over a half or full day or even be booked for a certain number of hours. The content of these practical sessions will be specific to your needs. For example, do you struggle with distal limb anatomy or would like more clarity with the paraspinal musculature.

Please note that pricing depends on the length of the session, the number of students and what is to be included in the day.

Please get in touch, if you would like more information or to book an Equine Placement Day or Anatomy Workshop.

What a wonderful trip to the Abbotts View Livery Track System on Saturday, to see my friend and her lovely horse Nino! I have been treating Nino for many years and he moved to Abbotts View towards the end of 2025! I have wanted to see this track system in person for years and what an incredible set-up it is! It really was a little slice of heaven!

AVL prides itself on the 3 F's...

Freedom. Forage. Friends.

These are essential welfare principles to meet a horse's natural social, nutritional and physical needs!

It was wonderful to see Nino so happy and relaxed! He was happy to come away from the herd for his physio session and the changes through his body are fantastic!
