The benefits of skin to skin for newborns have been widely studied, however a Cochrane review released this week has now gone one step further and concluded that the benefits of skin to skin have been so validated in so many research studies, that it would now be unethical to conduct further randomised control trials to compare skin to skin contact with separation of mum and baby after birth 🌟
Uninterrupted skin to skin immediately after birth as standard care is recommended by WHO and UNICEF, and while this is common practice in homebirths and midwifery led care, in a hospital setting this may not always be the case. Be prepared to advocate for this for you and your baby, as long as all is well.
