This week at Maplewood Kent, we hosted our carer induction training. A big thank you to our trainer, Joyce, for delivering such a fantastic session.
As part of our moving and handling training, we encourage all team members to experience being hoisted themselves. This is incredibly important, as it allows us to better understand what it may feel like for a client. Being hoisted can sometimes be frightening and make a person feel vulnerable, especially for people living with dementia, where the condition can affect parts of the brain responsible for spatial awareness.
By experiencing this first hand, we build greater empathy and understanding, ensuring we have the knowledge, confidence, and tools needed to provide the right level of support, reassurance, and comfort to our clients at all times.
