🗣️ ‘My head feels too heavy for my neck’

If you’re a woman with then you have probably already found yourself thinking at least one of these pain problem phrases this week.

Neck pain in hypermobile bodies isn’t just a case of sore muscles that will get better with a bit of rest. It’s a constant and exhausting cycle of tension causing pain ➡️ stretching increasing instability ➡️ instability driving poorer posture ➡️ maintaining posture with incorrect muscles causing fatigue ➡️ AND overused tired muscles causing increased muscle tension.

Do you experience pain no one can see?
Vote 👇🏼 YES/SOMETIMES/NO

What is one thing you wish people understood about chronic pain?

For me, it’s that chronic pain isn’t always visible 👀For those with hypermobility syndromes like or , it’s often misunderstood. Behind the ‘bendy’ body can be deep, constant pain, full-on fatigue, and a nervous system stuck in survival mode.

This month let’s raise awareness for all those suffering in silence with an invisible illness. Let’s build a space that’s strong, supportive, and empowering. 💪💫

🥵 If you are really feeling the heat this week, read on!! 🥵

Dysautonomia frequently co-exists with , particularly and . It is an umbrella term for conditions where the autonomic nervous system (ANS) doesn’t work properly. This matters as the ANS controls blood pressure, heart rate, digestion, and temperature. This is particularly relevant in this hot weather 🔥🥵we are having in the UK at the moment.

For many hypermobile women this can mean:
🔹 Heat intolerance
🔹 Crippling fatigue
🔹 Dizziness upon standing
🔹 Rapid heartbeat upon moving

Research shows that it is the differences in the connective tissues of hypermobility conditions that affects blood vessel function, which makes it harder for the body to maintain stable circulation and nerve signalling.

So what can you do to help heat intolerance and dysautonomia when hypermobile?

1️⃣ Hydration + Electrolytes — Aim for consistent fluid intake and add electrolytes to support blood volume.
2️⃣ Compression Wear — Compression socks or leggings help improve blood return and reduce dizziness.
3️⃣ Gradual Exercise — Gentle, low-impact workouts like Pilates can improve circulation without overloading joints.

💬 Have you experienced dysautonomia symptoms alongside your hypermobility? Comment below 👇🏼 your story could help someone else feel less alone.

🚫 MYTH: ‘You’re lucky to be hypermobile. Everyone else would love to be so bendy and flexible’.

✅ TRUTH: Hypermobile joints aren’t a party trick. Hypermobility is a real medical condition that, for many, comes with persistent pain, daily fatigue, gut sensitivities, bladder and bowel issues, and anxiety.

In addition to the symptoms, so many struggle for years with having their medical issues dismissed or misdiagnosed. The reality is that hypermobility spectrum disorders and hEDS can severely impact quality of life. It’s time we took them seriously, especially if we work in the complementary health and wellness space!

If this is your struggle:

🔹 you deserve knowledgeable support, not gaslighting

🔹 you deserve to learn stability and strength, not pushing into stretches

🔹 you deserve physical comfort and freedom from fatigue, not exhaustion from simply holding yourself together and upright all day.

👉🏼 Neck tension that won’t go away

👉🏼 Feeling ‘tight’ even though you’re flexible

👉🏼 Constant feeling ‘on edge’ with anxiety

You’re not ‘just anxious’. You’re not ‘too sensitive’. And you’re _definitely_ not imagining it, because it’s not in your head. It’s in your connective tissue — and your nervous system 🧠
