⚡ Competition Time! ⚡

We’re excited to let you know that a brand-new Focused Shockwave Therapy machine is arriving at the clinic! If you’ve been dealing with persistent pain that just won’t budge, this could be a game-changer.

🌀 So, what is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave uses focused sound waves to stimulate healing in soft tissues and tendons. It’s non-invasive and can be a great complement to hands-on treatment.

✅ When might it help?
- Long-standing tendon or soft tissue injuries
- Persistent heel, knee, or shoulder pain
- Conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and calcific tendinopathy

🎉 To celebrate the launch, we’re running a competition to win a FREE course of Focused Shockwave Therapy! 🎉

🌞 Wednesday Wellness: Week 6 🌞
This Week’s Tip: Don’t Skip the Knees - Managing Patellar Tendinopathy 🦵

Running, hiking, squatting, jumping - they all put a lot of demand on the knees. And if you’ve been feeling a dull ache just below your kneecap, especially during or after activity, you might be dealing with Patellar Tendinopathy - sometimes called Jumper’s Knee.

It’s caused by repeated stress on the patellar tendon (the one that connects your kneecap to your shin), leading to irritation or small-scale damage. It’s especially common in active people, but it can affect anyone - and it won’t always go away on its own.

Why proper management matters:
• Rest alone often isn’t enough to heal tendon issues
• Leaving it untreated can lead to longer-term pain or weakness
• Supporting tendon repair helps you get back to full strength safely
• Early intervention leads to faster, better outcomes

Top recovery strategies to try this week:
• Reduce high-impact load – Swap jumping/running for low-impact movement (like cycling or walking)
• Apply ice after activity – Helps reduce tendon irritation and discomfort
• Try isometric holds – Like wall sits or static quad holds to gently load the tendon
• Foam roll and stretch – Loosen surrounding tight muscles (especially quads and calves)
• Get assessed – A physio or osteo can guide progressive rehab that’s right for your knee

💬 Your knees do a lot for you - take care of them this summer so they can keep carrying you forward, pain-free.

🌞 Wednesday Wellness: Summer Edition - Week 5 🌞
This Week’s Tip: Supporting Sore Elbows - Golfer’s Elbow Recovery 🎯

Ever feel a dull ache or sharp pain on the inside of your elbow - especially after lifting, gripping, or repetitive arm movements?

That might be Golfer’s Elbow - a common tendon issue caused by overuse of the muscles that help you grip, twist, and lift. Despite the name, you don’t need to play golf to get it!

Why it matters:
• Caused by tiny tears in the tendon near the elbow
• Can become chronic without proper care
• Affects not just your arm, but wrist and hand function too
• Common in gym-goers, gardeners, parents, and anyone using their hands repetitively

Smart recovery tips to try this week:
• Ease up on strain – Take a break from heavy lifting or gripping activities
• Ice the area – 10–15 minutes a few times a day can help reduce inflammation
• Forearm stretches – Gentle wrist flexor stretches can relieve pressure on the tendon
• Support with a brace – Wearing a forearm strap can reduce tendon stress
• Massage therapy – Release tight forearm muscles

✨ Whether you're lifting weights, playing with little ones, or just staying active this summer - your elbow deserves a little extra care.

Prevention and early attention go a long way. Treat it now, and you’ll be free to enjoy the rest of your summer pain-free!

🌞 Summer Wellness - Week 4 🌞
This Week’s Tip: Recover Like a Pro - Post-Activity Care 🧘‍♂️

Whether you’ve been hiking, cycling, swimming, or just chasing the kids around the park, how you recover after physical activity is just as important as the activity itself.

Why recovery matters:
• Repairs micro-tears in muscle tissue
• Reduces soreness and stiffness
• Speeds up your body’s return to peak performance
• Prevents injuries from overuse or fatigue

Top recovery strategies to try this week:
• Stretch it out: Gentle static stretches after activity can relieve tightness
• Hydrate and refuel: Replenish fluids and get a mix of protein + carbs
• Cold showers or ice packs: Help reduce inflammation
• Foam rolling: Boost circulation and ease muscle tension
• Massage therapy: A mid-summer massage can work wonders on fatigued muscles

Give your body the care it deserves, and it’ll keep showing up for you all summer long 💪

🌞 Wednesday Wellness: Summer Edition - Week 3 🌞

This week we're focusing on preventing those common summer sports injuries that can sideline your active lifestyle.

This Week's Tip: Prevent Common Summer Injuries! ⚽

From tennis elbow to ankle sprains, summer activities can lead to predictable injuries. Here's how to stay ahead of them.

Most common summer sports injuries:
• Ankle sprains (uneven surfaces, quick direction changes)
• Tennis/golfer's elbow (repetitive arm motions)
• Shoulder strains (swimming, racquet sports)
• Hamstring pulls (sudden acceleration)
Prevention strategies:
• Wear proper footwear for your activity
• Build up intensity gradually over weeks
• Stay hydrated to maintain muscle function
• Listen to your body - rest when needed

Remember, prevention is always better than treatment. If you do experience persistent pain or discomfort, don't ignore it!

Stay active and stay safe! 💪

Our Story

Great Dunmow Osteopathy Clinic was established over 30 years ago. Osteopaths are hands on practitioners: we look at the biomechanical, fluid and metaphysical aspects of your body. Osteopaths are trained to diagnose as opposed to just process a diagnosis. Our aim is to utilize manipulation of the joints and deliver soft tissue work to provide unobstructed blood movement to and from all of the tissues of the body which is ultimately the fastest route to a full recovery. Angus Hellier is GDOC’s Principal Osteopath. Having graduated in 1999, Angus has 20 years’ experience accompanied with an extensive knowledge of the field which allows him to quickly and efficiently make highly accurate diagnosis and then immediately begin the treatment process.
