I’m seeing a lot of posts relating to the NMC ruling on remote prescribing in aesthetics which came into force on June 1st. This brings us nurses in line with drs, dentists and pharmacists who already have that ruling within their code of practice.
I’m seeing a lot of debates on fb forums saying that remote prescribing isn’t illegal and not breaking the law. This is true but what it does mean is that if a prescriber continues to prescribe remotely they are putting their registration at risk. They are going against their code of practice and therefore will likely be removed from the register. It also brings into question whether the insurance companies would still cover both the prescriber and the practitioner?
It seems that those who have based their business around remote prescribing are the most reluctant to accept the rules? These are the people shouting the loudest about it not be illegal. At the end of the day if you’re not on a professional register you have little to lose. Those still prescribing remotely you know the rules of your governing body and someone will be found out and reported. So why risk it for a few pounds per prescription? Codes of conduct are there to ultimately provide patient safety!
