At the Chiltern Hospital, keeping everyone safe is our top priority, especially when it comes to preventing infections. This International Infection Prevention Week, we are embracing the theme “Stand UPPP for Infection Prevention” - Unite, Protect, Prevent, Prevail.

It’s a simple but powerful message: when we work together, follow best practices, and stay vigilant, we can stop infections from spreading and create a safer environment for our patients, staff, and visitors.

A big thank you to our IPC lead, Jo Mason, for championing this important message and helping spread the word across the hospital. Infection prevention isn’t just a task - it’s a commitment we all share every day. Let’s keep standing strong, united in keeping our community healthy.

Is Knee Pain Holding You Back? It Might Be Time to Stop Waiting.

Living with constant knee pain can make even simple tasks feel like a challenge, and while delaying surgery might seem easier, waiting too long can affect your health, mobility, and overall recovery.

Here are a few important reasons why timing can make all the difference:

• Joint damage can worsen over time, potentially making surgery more complex.
• Reduced mobility can lead to muscle loss, balance issues, and decreased independence.
• Chronic pain affects quality of life, including sleep, mood, and activity levels.
• Avoiding movement may contribute to other health issues, such as weight gain and cardiovascular problems.
• Temporary relief methods (like injections or medications) may lose effectiveness over time.
• Better surgical outcomes are often seen in patients who are still relatively active and in good overall health.

If knee pain is interfering with your daily life, it's important to speak with an orthopaedic specialist to explore your options. Timely intervention can lead to better results and a faster return to doing what you love.
