The students became the students! 🏫🤝

Today marked Week 5 of our E&I Community Connection Project with Great Torrington School, and it was a very special session. This week, the tables turned and our residents took the lead as the teachers!

It was a joy to watch our residents share their "masterclasses" with the children, including:

🧶 Hand-on Skills: Teaching the timeless art of knitting.

🎲 Game On: Passing down the secrets of a winning game of dominoes.

🌍 Living History: Sharing fascinating stories about their hometowns and past careers.

Seeing the generations connect through storytelling and skill-sharing is exactly what this project is all about. Our residents loved being the mentors today, and the students were, as always, a credit to their school. 🌟

Thank you, Great Torrington School, for another heart-warming afternoon!

Yesterday we kicked off our morning with some much-deserved pampering here at Hatchmoor Nursing Home. Our residents enjoyed a relaxing manicure session, picking out their favorite colors and enjoying a good chat while getting their nails done.

There’s nothing like a fresh manicure to make you feel like a million dollars! It was the perfect, peaceful start to what turned out to be a very busy and productive day. 💅 color us happy!

✨ Happy Lohri! 🔥
Today we learn a little about Lohri, a joyful winter festival celebrated mainly in North India, especially within Punjabi culture. Lohri marks the end of winter and the harvest season, bringing people together around warmth, gratitude, and community.

At hatchmoor, we love honouring different cultures and traditions, creating moments of joy, connection, and learning for our residents and staff. 💛🌾

We were absolutely delighted to welcome students from Great Torrington School today for the very first session of their Enrichment & Intervention program.

This was the first of eight weekly visits, and today was all about breaking the ice and getting to know one another. It was wonderful to see the room buzz with energy as students and residents bonded over games of dominoes, board games, and plenty of great conversation.

The feedback from our residents was unanimous—they had a fantastic time and are already counting down the days until next Thursday! Thank you to the students for their kindness and enthusiasm. See you next week! 👋😊

What is the meaning?
The holiday is a time for reflection and renewal. For Mahayana Buddhists, it’s not just a party—it’s an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of the past year and set intentions to become a better, more compassionate person.

Common Traditions:
Temple Visits: People visit local temples to pray, chant sutras, and offer gifts to monks.

Bathing the Buddha: A ritual where water is poured over statues of the Buddha to symbolize the purification of one’s own mind and the washing away of negative karma.

Acts of Kindness: The day emphasizes "The Great Vehicle" (the literal translation of Mahayana), which focuses on achieving enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings.

Festivities: Like many New Year celebrations, it includes cleaning the home, grand feasts, and lighting candles or fireworks to bring luck and light into the coming year.
