A little bit sad as this was once a vibrant flower border but sometimes ease of maintenance becomes a priority. I removed the majority of the ground elder on a previous visit. I've no doubt it will appear through the turf and along the path but regular cutting should weaken it.

A two hour job to distribute and level a tonne of new top soil and turf the area.

The 'big guns' are out again! Hired a rotavator to prepare the ground for a 40 metre hornbeam hedge going in next week. Couldn't be happier with the fine tilth it's created and what a lot of work it's saved😎

After an unseasonally mild November, bare root planting season can finally begin. Thirty metres of mixed native hedging. Thankfully the stump grinder has turned over the ground nicely and made planting almost a pleasure 👌🏻

It won't be until Spring that we find out the full extent of the damage caused by this year's drought. For now though it's just good to see things greening up again so quickly and to finally again have some grass to cut 🌱

Biggest haul of leather jackets I've ever collected in one place and all in a single square foot of soil. Apparently they like Cerastium roots as well as grass! Robin will eat well today 😃
