Last week, Simon, Martyn and I had the privilege of looking after several families, and we were blessed to have the sun come out - which often can make a sad day seem a little bit easier to cope with.

Personally, I was able to look after two families at the end of the week who celebrated their loved ones with a personal tribute.

Thanks to the family of Mr A, and Mr S, for allowing me to share these images

It’s dying matters awareness week

If we talked about death and dying more…

🩶 it wouldn’t feel like something that exists only when it happens to you

🩶 we’d be more prepared for the moment when everything changes

🩶 we’d know what to say when someone is grieving

🩶 fewer people would feel like they have to go through it alone

🩶 we wouldn’t avoid the conversation just because it feels uncomfortable

🩶 we’d understand that grief doesn’t just end after the funeral

🩶 we’d give people more space to not be ok

Unfortunately, most people don’t know or understand these issues, and the bereaved and grieving are left to figure it out alone. And that is what needs to change. It is time to have real conversations before and after loss.

If you’re feeling this way, please know that you’re not alone in this.

If you need any help or resources, please have a look at the Dying Matters page below

Thinking of holding an event for Dying Matters Awareness Week, but need some advice? Read our top tips and things to consider.

I am proud that Jary's is a member of SAIF - the Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors.

One of the entrance criteria is that we are inspected for standards of care, transparency of costs, and overall quality of service - among many other elements.

SAIF have created this video, which showcases the role that an Independent Funeral Director plays in the community.

We pride ourselves on holding a space for you to say a real, heartfelt goodbye. Whether that is by playing a favourite song, the telling of a story, taking a certain route to the funeral, or even by sharing a moment of laughter. We take the weight from your shoulders, guiding you every step of the way, so that you can focus on what really matters.

You deserve the face-to-face human approach to loss. You deserve being handled with care.

It’s been another busy day at Jary’s.

Martyn started the day with a service for a former police officer, who paid tribute to him with a guard of honour as he approached the crematorium. His family bravely carried his coffin, draped in the union flag, into the chapel.

Simon was next, where the family had arranged for an Only Fools & Horses style es**rt for the cortège. Such a lovely tribute which was very personal.

Sean finished the day with a Scottish piper playing amazing grace as the hearse and limousines made their way down the long crematorium driveway to the chapel.

All unique ways celebrating each life, and remembering them in their own way
