Hello and Happy New Year! 🤩 Here are some tips and hints for 2025 and onwards:

If you have a dream or goal……go for it…..because eventually, somehow you will get there. Oh, but first, make sure they are realistic. (I do want to travel with a spaceship in our solar system and see the planets, but this might not be a realistic goal to work on right now 😉).

So if you notice that you are thinking of why you cannot achieve your goals, notice as well, how you are sabotaging yourself, and looking for reasons to avoid the hard work all this might take.

Write down these thoughts and reflect on them.
They might be something like these:

‘I am not good enough, ‘I will fail’,
‘This is not going to work, because’……..(and here you might give various reasons why this will not work…for example; ‘I do not have enough money’, ‘I do not have enough time’, ‘It is far, ‘I don’t see how I get there’…….. and the list can go on and on).

So it is ok to have these thoughts, as we all have them at some point, but how about making room for different thoughts as well, for example:

‘What will happen if I carry on thinking like this?’

‘Is this type of thinking taking me any closer to my dreams and goals? Or will they take me further away from them?’

‘What happens if I work on one step? Will that take me closer or further away from my goals?

Am I willing to make little steps from A to B so that I can get to Z properly, or I want to get to A-Z right away?’

‘Which is more realistic?’ ‘Which gives me instant pressure, and anxiety?’

So do have your amazing dreams and goals……it is fantastic if you have at least one!

You may not see the right steps clearly at the beginning, and that's ok but, with time, things will clear up……so trust the process…

Try it out and see what happens…..I did it too and it is worth the journey 😊

DO YOU LIVE IN YOUR PAST OR IN THE FUTURE?

Do you remember and ruminate about past events that hurt you? Do you go to the future and feel scared, worried, anxious about what your future holds?

In either way you are missing out on your present moment, that you can actually live and change.

Instead, your present moment becomes a rumination or worry.
To fully live your present, be aware of what your present moment is about. Take a moment to reflect on it…..What is it like, what is its content, what can you do to make the most of it?
What can you change? What would you do now so that even your next hour would be different?

You can only make decisions in the present moment...so make the most of it!

Mindfulness techniques teach you to be more aware of your present moment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy teaches you to be more aware of your thoughts, emotions that can lead you to make certain decisions that can have further consequences in your life.

WHY IS IT REALLY UNHEALTHY TO SUPPRESS OUR EMOTIONS…..Because they can take over our mind, our soul and our body, and have further negative effects on our life and people around us.

Sometimes it is easy to think that, if we do not talk about them, or we distort and avoid them, they will disappear and things will be ok. But we are deluding ourselves.

The suppressed issues can slowly escalate and burst out later, causing even more harm, such as rumination, anxiety, depression, staying in bad relationships, looking for alternatives like excessive alcohol, drugs etc.

Suppressing emotions causes a very toxic brain activity. We increase the effort in inhibiting our emotional responses in the brain, and we use more emotional effort and energy to further supress them when they reappear.

The longer we do this, the stronger effort and resistance we create in parts of the brain, responsible for emotional activities (particularly the amygdala, lateral prefrontal cortex). We basically inhibit the brain activities to function in a smooth way. So this is what happens every time the unresolved emotions, issues pop up in our mind and we try to ignore them or suppress them, and this is why we feel emotionally drained and exhausted.

We often contact a therapist or seek for help when things are just too much and when life becomes a mess. We do not need to live with pain, or be hurt for so long.
