Have you noticed that your staff seem less productive than usual? Are they taking more time off than you would expect?

If yes, it may be that your staff are tired or burnt out. This can have detrimental effects on both your employees mental and physical health as well as impacting the business as a whole.

Helping employees to recognise the signs of burnout and creating a culture of employee wellbeing benefits both individuals and the business.

Does your organisation currently have a wellbeing strategy?

Having a wellbeing strategy does not mean having to have all the answers - but sometimes this is what stops organisation's even getting started with a strategy.

Whilst 77% of respondents in the CIPD’s Health & Wellbeing At Work Report said their organisations actively promote good mental wellbeing, only half believe it is effective in tackling workplace stress, identifying and managing the increased mental health risks.

A proactive, rather than a reactive, approach is essential to listen, understand, implement and review your employees wellbeing support - across a suite of options.

Stress is a physiological reaction that affects every aspect of our lives, including our behaviour, performance, and relationships.

To manage stress, it's important to recognise the signs and symptoms and understand its causes. Stress can be caused by a variety of factors, including work-related stress, family and relationship problems, financial difficulties, and major life changes.

That's why both short-term and long-term strategies are needed for effective stress management. Short-term tactics, such as taking breaks during the workday, practicing deep breathing exercises, and engaging in physical activity, can provide immediate relief from stress.

The average UK adult feels stressed approximately 8.27 days a month, which is more than twice a week.

Stress is a significant problem in the workplace, impacting employees' wellbeing and productivity. While it can be a positive force that helps us perform, chronic stress can be debilitating and impact our mental health, decision-making, communication, and productivity.

It is important that employers create an environment that supports employees' mental health and wellbeing, recognising that employees cannot simply leave their stresses at home when they come to work.

💡 Did you know that taking short breaks during your workday can boost productivity and reduce stress?

Try setting a timer for 5 minutes every hour to stretch, breathe deeply, or just step away from your desk. Your wellbeing matters!

April is .

It’s a word that is used a lot - but what is stress, why do we need it and how can we recognise when it's affecting our wellbeing?

We all deal with stress differently, but if not managed it can be debilitating and cause or aggravate health problems.

Stress is primarily a physical response when our body thinks it’s under attack and turns on ‘FIGHT’ or ‘FLIGHT’ mode or even ‘FREEZE’ which can be useful and valid in times of crisis.

However, the response also causes a number of reactions such as:

- Blood being diverted to muscles and shutting down unnecessary functions, such as digestion.

- Brain function being minimised leading to us feeling like we ‘can’t think straight’ due to blood flow is going only to important muscles needed to fight or flee.

- Increased sugar and blood pressure levels, and decreased functions such as libido due to elevated cortisol levels.

These aspects are just some of the reasons why it’s important for us to be able to recognise and manage our stress levels.

Stay with us during as Wellspace explores tactics that can help us recognise and manage stress.

What is Happiness?

Everybody wants to be happy - including at work.

Happiness comes from a complex mix of our social relationships, sense of purpose, genetics, age, career, financial security, social comparisons, self-esteem, aspirations, health and autonomy to name a few!

Broadly speaking, three categories influence people’s level of happiness:

Those we cannot change (biology), those we can change over time (policies), and those we can change tomorrow (behaviour).

How would you describe it when you feel happy?
