“The hardest part comes after" - Princess Kate of Wales

Repost

In her quiet yet powerful words, Princess Kate once opened up about something many don’t talk about:
“You put on a brave face during treatment, but the real struggle begins after.”

She was speaking about her experience with chemotherapy—a journey that doesn’t end when the last session does.

Because once the treatments stop…
The world expects you to bounce back.
To smile.
To “go back to normal.”
But the truth is, that “normal” no longer exists.

What follows is a deep emotional rollercoaster:
The medical team is no longer by your side every day.
The adrenaline of survival fades.
The exhaustion lingers.
And you’re left navigating a new version of yourself—physically, emotionally, mentally.

“It’s a much harder process than I ever imagined,” she said.

This isn’t just a story of resilience.
It’s a reminder: healing takes time.
Not just the body—but the soul.
So if you—or someone you love—is in that space after the storm, don’t rush the calm.
Let it come, slowly. Gently. With grace.

And above all, don’t expect to be who you were before.
You’re becoming someone even stronger.

Yesterday this little super hero got the all clear with her hips. Her cups are still shallow, but they will hopefully deepen. It's been something that we have been worried about as her check ups had to stop due to chemo.

One less thing to worry about!

Keep smashing it Harper! 💛

It is with a mix of pleasure and sadness that we share the first of our efforts to support other children fighting cancer, particularly neuroblastoma.

Pleasure that we can bring a small amount of happiness and good feeling to children and families staying at Ronald McDonald House in Hershey Pennsylvania.

Sadness that so many children pass through this place, alone! The impact of neuroblastoma is wide reaching, we were lucky to meet two other, wonderful, children with Neuroblastoma when we stayed there. With Harper, a girl from India and a girl from Brazil. Our daughter, Nihaidiga and Yara, bonded by a terrible illness but bonded. They played together like they didn't have a care in the world and the older girls looked after Harper with such care. Sadly, one of those beautiful girls is no longer with us. Dearest Yara, beautiful in nature and strength beyond belief. RIP angel!

Our commitment to this community of superheroes is that we will provide treats every single day, from this week. We have committed to funding the treat box that will never run empty, so that these fearless children can have some simple pleasures during their stay at the most remarkable place, RMCH Hershey.

We thank you for your support of Harper and hope you recognise the importance of such a small but significant gesture!

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA

Thank you so much for your lovely post and arranging this for us.

Sending love to all the families with you in Hershey. X###

💛 Snacks from across the sea! 💛

Meet Harper, a brave 3-year-old from Manchester, UK, who stayed with us while receiving treatment in Hershey. During her time at the House, Harper and her family felt the incredible warmth and care of our community. Now, they’re giving back in the sweetest way — donating a variety of snacks to brighten the days of other families staying with us.

With a heart full of gratitude, Harper’s family hopes these treats bring a smile to others, just as the House did for them. Thank you to the Huddart/Walker family for sharing your love, kindness, and snacks with our community. 💖

Harper’s Army22 we thought now was the a great time for an update!

We are 2 years since the start of our journey and we wanted to share a huge thank you to Harper's Army of followers, supporters and fundraisers!

As you know, our baby has started DFMO and we were fortunate enough, with your help, to travel to the US to get the treatment Harper needs to keep this terrible disease at bay.

In January, DFMO became available for distribution in the UK still a trial, of sorts, but not at the level of research as the USA. This means Harper no longer needs harsh scans prior each prescription, no longer needs to travel to the USA to collect the we are no longer required to report every minor change in her presentation...

This is great news for us as a family, the upheaval caused by a trip is unreal... either coordinating 7 of us to travel across the world for a doctors appointment or separating the family.. either way was difficult.

What the change in where we access treatment means is... a proportion of your truly remarkable fundraising efforts can be used to support other children who suffer from Neuroblastoma.

We have many ideas in the pipeline to support parents, children and families who fight this disease. The harsh impact of a child fighting cancer is far reaching and long lasting, much harsher, further and longer than you could imagine...

We will always aim to provide an update to Harper's many followers because you are, and will always be, part of our family!

Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts! 💛

Harper rings the bell!!!! 🔔

01/11/2024

So today at 3pm Harper Annie Walker rang the bell!!! 🔔 Today is a day we have dreamed off for so long, we used to walk past it everyday on the ward, and prayed we would get to this point. Her consultant, Professor Bernadette Brennan read the poem for us, and some of the amazing team from the wards she has been treated on was there, and her Macmillan Nurse, Helen. Thank you to those who could be there, we honestly wish we could have invited everyone. Unfortunately, the signal wasn’t great so we couldn’t do a live, but here is the clip

Tomorrow Harper is ringing the bell. We would love everyone to be there, but unfortunately that isn’t an option.

Harper has finished UK treatment and is obviously on the trial in America. We could have rang the bell in July, but wanted to wait until abother round of scans stating NED.

We are going to try to go live from the Harper’s Army account, but signal isn’t great on the ward.

Please try to join us at 3pm.

if that doesn’t work, we will post a video straight after
