Take a bow Gemma Muir and the Sisco team 👏🏼

Outstanding performance, I felt all the emotions last night.

I was lucky I got to see a wee snippet years ago on a visit to Sisco and now to see it performed in a theatre is mind blowing. Seeing the guys up there acting out true life stories was deeply moving.

Please know there is always help out there if you are feeling suicidal reach out. The world is a better place with you in it. ♥️

📚 Another full weekend of learning underway in the capital city.

✏️ Lots of learning and self development on my somatic trauma therapy course.

🧘🏼‍♀️ Can’t wait to offer a skill to help people connect, release and feel safe in their bodies.

✋🏼 Simple movement can be such a powerful way to release stored trauma.

✨ My first online CBT group ✨

10 women came together to discuss their struggles with hormones and mental health, share ways they cope and learn some new CBT tools to take home.

Our topic explored Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome that significantly affects emotional and physical health. Understanding PMDD is crucial for improving the quality of life for individuals impacted by this disorder.

Thank you to .sas for co-facilitating the workshop with me and the opportunity to meet and work with your clients.

More often than not addiction is rooted in childhood trauma.

Childhood trauma is a predisposing factor that makes someone more vulnerable to using substances as a way of coping and self soothing.

In my time working in residential rehab there wasn’t one client who didn’t have some form of childhood trauma.

So important as a society we look beyond the addiction and see the person. 🤍

🗣️ I have a couple of spaces coming up for either online or face to face therapy.

🏗️ For face to face I’m based in Greenock two days a week.

💻 Remotely I work with clients from the Isle of Arran and beyond. I can work with anyone, anywhere within the UK.

📔 I am open for bookings for future group work. These are normally run in blocks. I can tailor make the groups to suit the service needs. I can offer general wellbeing groups, specific CBT groups such as self esteem, emotional regulation skills, staff training within organisations and decider skills. I work with a broad range of clients from those in recovery, people through the justice system, women only groups, family groups and more.

It was the final CBT self esteem group at Inverclyde Faith in Throughcare today.

6 weeks of connection, growth, building self esteem, sharing, lifting each other up, welcoming new people and lots of laughs.

We finished up focusing on building positive experiences.

Here are the questions we explored and then shared our future hopes and dreams
(Feel free to try these out yourself) -

1. What experiences would I like to have?
2. What would I like to learn?
3. What would I like to achieve?
4. What activities would I like to start or do more of?
5. What would I like to do less of or change?
6. What would I like to create?
7. What relationships would I like to improve?
8. What emotions would I like to feel more of?
9. What places would I like to visit?

Engaging in positive experiences can boost our self esteem and improve our moods.

At the end the guys received a certificate for attending the last 6 weeks.

It’s been a pleasure to work with the guys at Ifit again so thanks for having me, nice to build on existing relationships and develop new ones.

It’s not goodbye it’s a see you later. 👋🏼

The penultimate week at Inverclyde Faith in Throughcare and today’s focus was on behavioural activation and how this can improve self esteem.

We discussed behaviours the guys were already engaging in and related this to improved self esteem. Examples like learning to play the guitar and reconnecting with family were powerful examples. 🎸

If we change our behaviours we can change our thoughts and feelings. 💭

By engaging in meaningful activities we can boost our self esteem and start to create an upward spiral which can lead to more motivation to engage in further activities and the cycle should continue to reinforce itself once established. 🔁

Are you comfortable sitting with your emotions?

Or do you

📱 Doom scroll?
🍷 Pour yourself a glass of wine?
🚬 Use substances?
🍰 Comfort eat?

There are many ways we can push our emotions away but it’s important to tune into them, and work out what they are trying to communicate to you. Emotions are meant to be felt.

CBT and somatic therapy can help you explore your emotions with a mind and body approach. I can offer you both. If you want to know more drop me a message.

Today the banter was flowing , it was rowdy and fun.

We focused on our resources, looking at our self esteem bucket, what fills it, what drains it and what can we do to plug the holes.

We then finished with a guided self esteem meditation.

Laughter really is the best medicine.

“Members of a cohesive group feel warmth and comfort in the group and a sense of belongingness; they value the group and feel in turn that they are valued, accepted, and supported by other members.”

~ Yalom

The power of the therapeutic group was present today, I left feeling deeply moved by what was shared and how far people have come on their journeys.

Today we looked at modifying our core beliefs. This allowed the group to reflect on the past but also really build on their postive aspects. 🫶🏼

In the wild when animals are faced with a threat they either fight, flight or freeze. After the traumatic experience the animal appears to shake it off and discharge the energy and moves on with it’s life without appearing to suffer any traumatic effects the way humans do.

When humans are unable to complete a trauma cycle this can get stored in the body as undischarged energy. They may have not been able to fight or run so the last option was to freeze to survive.

This stored trauma can present itself as psychosomatic conditions.

Somatic trauma therapy helps a client tap into this energy and discharge it in a safe and controlled way.
