Glenfield has been a longtime supporter of Parklea Branching Out, and we returned to the café for lunch and a walk around the garden areas. We purchased some plants to brighten the gardens, and we look forward to our next visit when there will be a greater choice of plants for the residents to decide how they would like to design the gardens for summer.

2025 is our Year of Musical Expression, and we welcomed Laura Corrigan, a music therapist, who will be working with our residents for the next three months, coming in every two weeks on Friday afternoons. Laura sees music as a powerful means of communication that gives us the freedom to express our feelings. It can soothe and console us, transfer energy, serve as a means of reflection and relaxation, bring residents together, and link us to the community. The first session was amazing to watch; the responses of the residents and their creative expressions while playing the instruments proved that music is a powerful tool.

Another busy and active month for the residents of Glenfield! We have been out and about visiting the Lyle Kirk Gateway's new dementia café for lunch and a cuppa while having fun at the music therapy session held by Daniella Hathaway. Daniella is a singer and music specialist who leads dementia music workshops. The session was great and gave us the opportunity to catch up with our friends from Bagatelle.

St. Patrick’s Day was a jubilant affair at Bagatelle. With decorations adorning the walls, tables elegantly set and drinks aplenty, the celebrations were vibrant.

The talented Charlie Gorman entertained us with a range of songs from Ireland, followed by a captivating performance from the Irish dancers of McDade’s School of Dancing, drawing applause after each delightful routine.

Pancake Tuesday at Bagatelle was a resounding success, with residents creating their own pancakes with lots of toppings. Each plate was nearly clean, and many were delighted to go back for seconds!

Bagatelle took a delightful excursion to Largs, where we enjoyed a traditional chippy lunch. The residents engaged in a sing-along and reminisced about the places we passed along the way. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and are already looking forward to our next outing.

Jane’s arts group continues to be a source of joy and relaxation for our residents. Each Tuesday, participants showcase their artistic talents, and we are always impressed by the creativity on display. Many thanks to Jane for generously volunteering her time.

Heather recently celebrated her 90th birthday, surrounded by family, friends, staff, and fellow residents. A heartfelt thanks to our catering team for preparing a delicious buffet, and to Jackie, who entertained us by playing ‘Happy Birthday’ on his ukulele for everyone to join in.

Every Friday, we host ‘The Swally Doon The Palley’ an afternoon filled with drinks and nibbles. The drinks trolley is brought out, featuring a fantastic selection for everyone to enjoy. We always conclude the week on a high note, brimming with fun, laughter, dancing, and sing-alongs.

Bagatelle's Valentine Concert featuring Shelagh McKay Jones was a standout moment, with residents joyously singing along to romantic love songs. A few residents even took to the dance floor, and we received wonderful feedback at the end of the show. We eagerly look forward to Shelagh's next visit.
