Moving On Inverclyde

Moving On Inverclyde A Centre of Excellence facilitating long-term recovery pathways. Supporting People In Inverclyde Since 2002. https://linktr.ee/moinverclyde

Moving On Inverclyde is a support service for people affected by their own or another’s problematic use of alcohol or drugs. We have been providing services in Inverclyde since 2002. We believe everyone has the potential to rebuild their lives and reshape their futures. We also understand those using our service may have other difficulties or situations requiring support besides their recovery. This is why we have a full and robust package of support available through our partnerships and collaborations with local services to empower and enable a successful recovery.

We’re excited to share that our first Sycamore Hope blog post is now live, and we couldn’t think of a more important topic to begin with than challenging the stigma faced by women in recovery👩🏻‍💻

This piece was written by Melissa Pick, our Marketing and Events Manager. It explores the real barriers women experience when reaching out for support, the role stigma plays in keeping them silent, and why compassionate, informed communities make all the difference.

Debbie’s story helped shape this conversation, and it sets the tone for what Sycamore Hope is all about: safety, empowerment and connection.

This is just the beginning. We’ll be sharing more blogs over the coming weeks as we continue to spotlight women’s voices, explore recovery experiences, and open up conversations that matter! 🌿

We are honoured to share that we have received a £2,000 grant from Inverclyde Council’s Warm Hand of Friendship fund, as part of a collective £89,760 awarded to 59 local groups to create welcoming, warm spaces across Inverclyde this winter ☃️

This support will help us run twice-weekly lunches for those accessing our services, providing not only a warm meal, but also warmth in community, connection, and care.

We know how isolating and difficult the winter months can be, especially when the cost of living is rising. Thanks to this initiative, we can continue to offer vital support and reduce social isolation, giving people a place to belong and a reason to come together.

We’re deeply grateful to Inverclyde Council, and to all the community partners involved, for recognising the importance of these spaces 💚

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women🧘🏻‍♀️

So many women in recovery have also lived through violence or abuse. They often carry trauma that isn’t always spoken about, but it still affects every step forward.

This year, during the 16 Days of Activism, from 25 November to 10 December, UN Women is drawing attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women under the theme: “End digital violence against all women and girls”.

At Moving On Inverclyde, we believe that every woman deserves safety, dignity and support in every part of her life, offline and online. We stand with the women who are rebuilding after trauma, finding their voice again and learning that they are allowed to feel safe. Their strength is not defined by what happened to them, but by the way they keep choosing themselves, day after day. This is why we built our new women's resource website: www.sycamorehope.com 🌿

Today, and every day, we want women to know:
✨ You are not alone
✨ You deserve safety and respect
✨ Healing is possible

We are here with open arms and open hearts.

As we move into the festive season, we know this time of year can feel heavy for many. Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs are hosting their annual Lights of Love and Memory event on Wednesday 26th November at St George’s Tron Church in Glasgow from 6.30pm to 9pm.

It’s a gentle space for reflection, music, connection and the chance to honour and remember loved ones in an environment where everyone understands.

The main gathering takes place from 7pm to 8.30pm, with the first and last half hour open for anyone who wants to chat with staff, speak with others attending or dedicate a star to someone special. Tea, coffee and cake are included, and tickets are £5.

This is an open event, so please feel free to share it with anyone who may take comfort from being there.

Meet the Team: Mel 👩🏻‍💻📸

Hey everyone, I’m Mel, the Marketing and Events Manager here at Moving On Inverclyde! 💚

I look after everything to do with how we share our story, from our social media and campaigns to our community events and celebrations.

My job is all about showing the heart behind what we do, making sure people see the hope, connection, and strength that shines through every person we support.

My favourite project since starting at Moving On Inverclyde is building our new website for women in recovery! You can have a wee look at www.sycamorehope.com 🌿🌟

Aftercare matters 🌟

It gives people a steady place to land when life gets loud, stressful or overwhelming.

Tia completed our 26-week programme and moved onto After Care feeling grounded and motivated. She’d built healthier routines, found new ways to cope and created a life that felt more stable.

But a few months in, big changes hit all at once. Old urges started creeping back, and instead of trying to manage it alone, Tia reached out. Because she was already in After Care, she felt comfortable asking for help before the thoughts grew stronger.

One conversation and a short burst of relapse-prevention support was all it took to help her steady herself again. She’s still abstinent, still focused, and still committed to the life she’s building.

That’s the power of After Care, support when it’s needed most, before things spiral.

Healing isn’t always deep chats and journaling, sometimes it’s just drinking your water, taking a walk, or choosing peace over chaos 💅

These little moments count just as much as the big ones.
