Phil Ubee

7th December 1952-5th July 2025

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Phil, the first Chairperson of our Trust. His unwavering dedication, quiet strength, and steadfast support laid the foundation upon which our work continues to grow.

The Trust, named in honour of his beloved first wife, reflects the values Phil held close throughout his life—compassion, integrity, and service to others. He was not only a guiding presence in our early years but remained a deeply committed supporter, mentor, and friend as we grew.

Phil’s legacy lives on in every project we've undertaken and in every life touched by the work he helped to shape. His calm leadership and quiet belief in the power of kindness will continue to inspire us for years to come.

His recent battle with MND only highlighted once again the same resilience, dignity, and quiet courage that defined him. The past few months have been incredibly hard, yet Phil faced them as he did everything—with grace, an enduring smile, and a deep concern for others before himself.

Phil passed away peacefully on Saturday evening with his loving family by his side. We will miss him more than words can say, and we will carry his memory with us in all that we do.

We send our love to Jo, Mike, and Lily, and to all of Phil’s wider family and friends.
May he rest in peace.

As part of Mental Health Week, I've been reflecting on the simple habits that help me stay grounded — and one of the most powerful for me is connecting with nature.

Whenever I feel low or overwhelmed, I make myself go for a walk outdoors. Even just ten minutes surrounded by trees, sky, and fresh air can shift my mood and help me feel more like myself again. It’s something I’ve leaned on for years, and I’m really grateful it works for me.

This week’s theme is community, and I think that includes sharing the small things that help us cope. If you’re feeling a bit off, maybe try a nature walk — and know you’re not alone in how you feel.

Let’s support each other. If you have a go, I’d love to hear how it went for you in the comments below — or feel free to share what helps you, too. 💚 Denise-Director and co-founder of DUT

Mental Health Week 2025 12th -18th May.

For me community is best described as the group of people whom I can turn to when I need help, support or sometimes just company. The ones who are there for me, often without reward or judgement. In these turbulent times it feels more important than ever to connect with people in a way that matches with who we are and what we need. Whether a football team, work colleagues, old friends from school or fellow dog walkers, we are all connected, and that matters to our wellbeing. Cath -therapist at DUT

Mental Health Week 2025 12th -18th May.

I took care of my mental health when I joined the community of my local choir . The benefits are many. it helps people to feel less isolated, friendships are made , the possible negative impact of being told as a child that you couldn't sing are alleviated when you realise that it's fun , there's no right or wrong . you enter feeling the weight of your worries and leave feeling lifted in good spirits to face another week . We also join in lots of fundraising in the local community which enhances the feeling of doing good and feeling good . Linda- therapist

Mental Health Week 2025 12th -18th May.

Community matters. So does your mental health.

Mental health isn’t something we deal with alone.
Support networks—friends, family, colleagues, neighbours—can make a real difference.
This week is a reminder to check in, speak up, and be there for each other.

No grand gestures—just real connection.- Mandy, Director of the children and young peoples service.

RECENTLY, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland hosted its second annual Winter Wishes event, a free and accessible experience for charities, hospitals, and underserved schools to enjoy a magical day out at the UK’s largest festive event.
Created for those who might otherwise find it difficult to attend Winter Wonderland due to physical, sensory, or financial requirements, Winter Wishes offers free entry and unlimited access to over 100 rides and attractions in a reduced capacity and lower sensory environment.

Here at DUT we were able to offer 20 children/families a free ticket , We have had a wonderful response from those families;

'Thank you so much for giving my family the tickets to go to Winter Wonderland, I have heard about it but never been as it's too far, too crowded and too much money. It was amazing me and my kids had such a great time, there wasn't too many people, there were no queues, the rides were free, the people were friendly and welcoming. My children have not been on these rides before or an event like this and they loved it! I didn't need to worry about losing my children in the crowds or being judged for them having a meltdown. My youngest didn't need to use his ear defenders, the people on the rides made sure he was safe and explained things to him were needed. A big thank you from all of us!!

Thank you for for this experience you are amazing, we were even able to go visit the king after thank you!'

'Thank you so much for this amazing experience, my children really loved it, they got to go on rides, meet Santa and we had the most amazing day, we loved the circus-we'd never been before'

'What a wonderful thing to do, we feel so appreciative of the tickets, this event would absolutely be a no go for us as a family, my children had the best time- what an amazing treat for them, our lives have definitely been a challenge over the last few years and this really was the boost my kids needed'.

It makes us really happy to be able to give families a bit of sparkle at Christmas time.
