A health and well-being check for older adults is a supportive check in to understand how someone is really managing at home. It looks at both physical health and emotional wellbeing, helping to make sure everyday needs are being met safely and comfortably.

These checks can include a review of medical conditions, medication, nutrition, mobility, vision and hearing, mental health and social connection. The aim is to notice small changes early, reduce risks, and offer guidance or extra support before concerns grow.

Our trained Care Professionals can help with these health and wellbeing checks, providing reassurance, kindness and experienced support so older adults can continue living well at home đź’š

It’s Nutrition and Hydration Week, highlighting how important regular meals and fluids are.

For people living with dementia, staying hydrated can help prevent increased confusion and other complications linked to dehydration. 🍎

Getting active does not have to mean pushing yourself. Gentle stretching can help you stay mobile and feel more comfortable, even from a chair or bed.

Try pointing and flexing your toes, lifting one leg at a time, or slowly straightening and bending your knees. A gentle stretch through the back while seated can also help ease stiffness.

Little movements, done regularly, can make a real difference. And if you or a loved one would like a bit of extra support, we’re here for a chat 💚

When families worry that a loved one is not eating well, they often focus on what is on the plate.

What gets overlooked is how much effort comes before that. Deciding what to eat, remembering what is needed and making choices in the shop can quietly start to feel like too much.

That is why support with planning and shopping can make such a difference. Having someone alongside you helps take the pressure off decisions, restores routine and makes food feel manageable again. Often, eating better follows naturally when the mental load is shared.

To find out how we support everyday routines like planning, shopping and mealtimes in Wrexham & Flintshire East, call 01978 660423 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/wrexham-flintshire.

There are still a lot of assumptions about care, and many families tell us these myths are what stop them from starting a conversation sooner.

Care does not have to mean losing independence.
It is not only for later stages.
And it does not have to feel rushed or clinical.

When care is done well, it fits around everyday life. It can be companionship led, flexible and focused on helping people keep doing the things that matter to them. Sometimes, clearing up a few myths is all it takes to see support in a very different way.

Which of these surprised you most?

I wish to stay home instead.

Those are the words an elderly woman told her son, when the family knew mum needed more help at home and wasn’t coping. They looked at a few homes some good, some bad and had a chat with mum about what she thought, the words that came out of her mouth were “I wish to stay home instead.” Since that day Home Instead Senior Care was started. A few years later and Home Instead Senior Care Wrexham and Flintshire East are providing those very same values to elderly residents in the Wrexham and Flintshire areas. A service that allows for independence with support, a comprehensive service of meals, washing, dressing, companionship, shopping, ironing, laundry, engagement, appointments and much more. An ethos that says every visit we provide should be at least 1 hour, our CAREGivers do not wear a uniform (which we believe highlights where vulnerable elderly residents live), continuity of CAREGiver and all of our caregivers will be introduced to clients before services commence.
