The day after our Burns celebrations, we held a live-feed bird watching afternoon as part of the national Big Garden Birdwatch. We saw different birds feeding live via the laptop connected to the television. In this way, we made sure that we saw many different species of birds from gardens all over the world and we also learnt a bit about them. Our lovely residents said that it was very interesting and they found out a lot about them, not just the common birds that we have in our back gardens.

This week, some of our lovely residents were able to take part in an archery competition via the Wii console. There was a lot of friendly competition and rivalry, but everyone cheered when residents scored three bullseyes in a row. Everyone tried very hard and exceeded their own expectations. Our residents helped each other and our wellbeing co-ordinator, Hayley, was able to keep a note of the fantastic scores that were achieved. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and received a medal for their tremendous efforts.

We had a wonderful Burns afternoon, where we learned all about Robert (Rabbie) Burns and why we celebrate Burns Night. We had some Scottish songs and some of his most famous poetry. We had the traditional 'haggis, neeps and tatties' that was accompanied by Burns' famous poem, A Toast to the Haggis. Some of our lovely residents were trying haggis for the first time and admittedly it was a bit of a 'Marmite moment' for some of them. We finished off the afternoon with some rousing Scottish songs and our residents joined in with various musical instruments. Everyone said that they had thoroughly enjoyed the fun, party afternoon.

On Monday, we had a visit by a very special cat. 'Lemmy Baby Sphynx Cat' (according to his mother, Hayley, our wellbeing co-ordinator). Lemmy is the youngest of her three boys and he was as good as gold when he was introduced to all our lovely residents who adored and petted him. He was in his element as all his admirers fussed over him. Both residents and our feline friend had a lovely afternoon. Lemmy will return in a few months' time after his elder brothers, Iggy and Ozzy, have taken their turns in being pampered by our residents.

On Friday, some of our lovely residents took part in 'Wingo Bingo'. It was a delightful afternoon with a great deal of fun and laughter. Excitement ran high when only one or two numbers were needed for a full house or a line. Somehow, everyone was a winner, thanks to our wellbeing co-ordinator, Hayley, who was overseeing the games. Chocolates, medals and small bits of jewellery were the residents' preferred prizes. Residents are already looking forward to another session of bingo in the near future.

We had a game of giant snakes and ladders and our lovely residents really enjoyed it. They thoughtfully helped out Hayley, our wellbeing co-ordinator, with the maths part of the proceedings, especially when the dice scores were tripled! There was a lot of laughter during the game and everyone said what a lovely, fun afternoon it had been.

Today, we had a lovely afternoon that entailed relaxation, aromatherapy, meditation and hand massages. In addition, there was a session of gentle chair exercises to get our lovely residents moving. We had relaxing music and beautiful scenery via the television, but when the pom-poms were being used, we upped the tempo of the music to accompany the exercises. The afternoon concluded with a lovely round of relaxing hand massages that our residents really appreciated. Everyone said that they had thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and felt much better for it!

Today, residents enjoyed the top variety acts of the 1950s and 60s. We also had the most iconic comedy moments from the 1950s to the 80s, covering such wonderful moments as 'the chandelier scene' from Only Fools and Horses and the Bavarian dance scene from Are You Being Served. Other greats included the fire in the kitchen scene from Fawlty Towers and the 'Wibble scene from Blackadder. Hyacinth Bucket ensured that everyone was kept amused. To finish off the Two Ronnies captivated us all with their hilarious musical renditions, including the Plumstead Ladies Choir and the Aldershot Brass Ensemble, to mention but a few. The residents were all laughing throughout and mentioned how comedy just isn't the same today as it used to be. They were also able to reminisce amongst themselves, discussing the parts that were most pertinent to themselves. All in all it was an hilarious and wonderful afternoon.

On Friday, we had a dominoes afternoon as requested by our lovely residents. It became competitive, as it always does, but there was a great deal of enjoyment. We also had Doreen, our 'birthday girl', celebrating her birthday and we all joined in wishing her a happy birthday and eating the birthday cake. It was a fun afternoon and everyone who took part said that they had really enjoyed themselves. Doreen's day got to be even better when she was declared the overall winner and she was awarded the cup that she can keep until the next tournament.

On the very last day of 2025, on New Year's Eve afternoon, we had a fantastic party to 'countdown' to the new year. Our midnight turned out to be 4 o'clock in the afternoon! We closed the curtains and our residents had twinkling lights and fireworks on the television, so it was very atmospheric and it felt like the evening. It was an amazing party with singer, Nigel, who kept the party spirit going. There was a great selection of food and drink, including alcoholic drinks, and everyone had a merry old time!

A few days ago, we had our long-awaited Christmas party. It was a spectacular afternoon that brought everyone together to join in the spirit of Christmas. We had a performance from Dual Personality (our wellbeing co-ordinator, Hayley, and her singing partner, John) that raised the roof with a fantastic medley of Christmas songs. The Clarendon Hall choir also put on a fantastic show that was full of Christmas fun and everyone joined in with great gusto. To complete the afternoon we held a raffle that raised well over £200.
Everyone had a tremendous time and Father Christmas was able to make an early visit to us and he thanked Hayley and all the members of staff for all their magnificent hard work and dedication. Everyone said what an amazing afternoon it had been.

Some of our lovely residents took part in making Christingles (Christ Lights). The orange represents the world, the red ribbon symbolises the blood of Christ, the candle represents Jesus as the Light of the World, and the sweets and dried fruit symbolise God's creations and the four sticks stand for the four seasons. We had a super time making the Christingles and our residents were assisted by Hayley and Amy and her daughter, Bonnie. Many of our residents said that they remembered making Christingles when they attended Sunday School, many years ago. The Christingles played a part in Clarendon Hall choir's performance at our fantastic Christmas party.
