Never underestimate the importance of sleep.

A lack of sleep can make you suffer from low mood, struggle to concentrate, you can't be bothered to do anything as you feel tired and your body craves bad sugary foods, which also has a negative effect on your mental health.

A decent nights sleep allows your body and mind to rest making it easier to concentrate at school or at work. It also makes you feel refreshed and motivated and helps give you a positive outlook so you feel like you can confidently tackle anything in the day ahead.

However it's not always possible to get a good nights sleep if you are feeling anxious, worried or even excited! Here are a few tips to help you get a good nights rest:

πŸ’€ Turn off all electronic equipment such as mobile phones, gaming and laptops at least 2 hours before you go to bed

πŸ’€ Read a book a bedtime

πŸ’€ Listen to some calming music to help you unwind

πŸ’€ Get active - Having regular exercise is great to help you sleep

πŸ’€ Darkened room - Dimmed lights can make you feel sleepy and black out blinds or a dark blanket thrown over your curtains can help to darken your room.

πŸ’€ Avoid caffeine and sugary foods before bed

It's the weeeeekend!!

For a lot of us, we get that excitable feeling knowing we have two days off to do the things we want to do. However, for others the weekend can fill you with dread and makes you feel anxious for different reasons. Maybe you have lost a loved one so seeing people having fun with friends and family can make you feel sad and lonely? Maybe you are anxious to go out when it is busier in public places like parks and shopping centres.

Maybe you are going away and feel anxious about travelling on a plane or train?

Whatever the reason, if you feel anxious try this square breathing exercise to help regulate your breathing make you feel calm.

We know that 1 in 6 children in the UK aged 5-16 have been identified as having probable mental health complexities. We know that children who have experienced adverse childhood attachment and trauma are at a much greater risk of entering the Youth Justice system. We also know that children who end up in custody are 3 times more likely to develop mental health problems, and that over 2 thirds of children released from custody are likely to re-offend within 12 month.

We need to do more, which is why the JEFF project was formed. We hear you, and it is our mission to help support children and young people with their mental health and well-being, so they can successfully steer away from the youth justice pathway forging a brighter future for themselves.

We believe that getting the right help at the right time can make a huge difference to the future of your child, especially if they are potentially on the youth justice pathway.

We spend quality 1 to 1 time with a child or young person, to listen to them and then provide techniques to help them to understand and manage their emotions.

Early intervention is so important to help prevent mental health difficulties later in life.

Take 5 minutes a day just to check-in with yourself and ask yourself how you are doing. Do the same with your friends and then chat about how you are feeling. A problem shared is a problem halved ❀️ πŸ‘ πŸ‘¬

After a busy week, the weekend is the perfect time to take time out for YOU and recharge your bodies battery.

A great way to switch off is to do something fun like taking up a new hobby that connects you with nature.

Living in North East Lincolnshire, we are very lucky to have the beach and the wolds on our doorstep to explore.

Walking, surfing and Paddleboarding are all great activities to get involved with locally and help you switch off from the world and be at one with yourself.

What are your plans for the weekend to help you unwind? Post in the comments below

The JEFF project provides mental health and emotional wellbeing support to children and young people aged 8-18 years old in North East Lincolnshire who are on the youth justice pathway, or who are at risk of being in trouble with the law due to childhood adversity or trauma.

We work with and support children and young people who are not feeling themselves. It might be through anxiety, low-mood, poor sleep, diet, nutrition but ultimately they do not feel themselves. Sometimes this affects the way they behave.

JEFF is here to support children and young people to stay on track, and to learn more about themselves and their emotions so that they remain in control and make positive fulfilling choices to help divert them away from the youth justice system.

During challenging times, we may find ourselves wondering about the next steps in our journey. It's natural to question our path and seek guidance on what to do and where to go next. Remember, difficult times are temporary, and with patience and resilience, we can find our own way through them and emerge stronger on the other side.
Trust in your inner strength and keep moving forward with courage and determination!πŸ’ͺ

The results are in!🌟
Custard creams were the clear winners for taste, although they didn't manage as well in a cuppa! Bourbons and malted milks also fell quickly into a brew, but the clear winner of the resilience test is....shortbread!πŸŽ‰
Did you predict the winner? What's your favourite biscuit - do you think it would score higher than a shortbread or a custard cream?πŸ˜†
