Dear RDA Volunteers,

To mark the start of Volunteers’ Week, RDA UK Chair of Trustees, Helena Vega-Lozano, shares a personal message of thanks — and an invitation to share the RDA experience with someone new.

As we begin Volunteers’ Week, I wanted to take a moment, on behalf of the RDA UK Board of Trustees, to say a heartfelt thank you.

Across the UK, volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do. Whether you support sessions at your local group, help behind the scenes, serve on committees, or cheer us on from afar — your time, your compassion, and your commitment make the RDA experience possible for thousands of participants every year.

Your impact reaches far beyond the RDA Group. You’re helping to build confidence, create connection, and change lives for disabled people across the UK.

This year, we’re inviting you to take part in — a campaign rooted in the simple truth that most people begin their volunteering journey because someone invited them in. That’s how I first got involved, too. Years ago, when my childhood pony, Thomas, found his way to an RDA group, I witnessed first-hand how life-changing that invitation into the world of RDA could be.

So this week, as we celebrate you — our dedicated and inspiring volunteers — I hope you’ll consider extending that invitation to someone new. Whether it’s a friend, neighbour, family member or colleague, your encouragement could be the start of something truly special.

On behalf of everyone at RDA UK, thank you again for the vital role you play in this extraordinary community.
