It’s that time again flu vaccination 💉season is upon us and Birkwood pharmacy are now ready to vaccinate eligible patients 65yrs and under and also 65yrs and over.

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to people who are 50 and over (including those who'll be 50 by 31 March 2022)
If you have certain health conditions including diabetes, chronic liver disease chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, respiratory disease

If you are pregnant

If you are in long-stay residential care

If you receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled
person who may be at risk if you get sick

If you live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)

If you are a frontline health or social care worker

It is true to say more people are likely to get flu this winter as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you do get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, research shows you're more likely to be seriously ill but getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 will provide protection for you and those around you and for both these serious illnesses.

If you've had COVID-19 it is safe to have the flu vaccine It will still be effective at helping to prevent flu.

So with all this in mind Give our friendly team a call at the pharmacy to book your flu vaccine mon-Friday between 9am and 12pm then 2pm to 6pm.

Protect yourself this winter

Take Care in the Sun 1 of 6
Keeping safe while enjoying the sun.
While we are coming out from the lockdown, there are health concerns other than covid19 that you need to think about. As we have been shut away for so long and many of us have missed our holidays, it is easy to be tempted to catch a “few rays” in the local parks or at the beach, especially if the weather is nice.

However, the risk of skin cancer (melanoma) is just as likely as it ever was. Each year there are 16,200 new melanoma cases diagnosed in the UK (2015-2017). Since the early 1990s, melanoma skin cancer rates have more than doubled (135%). There are around 2,300 skin cancer deaths in the UK each year.
