🌿 You spend so much time looking after everyone else that somewhere along the way, you may have stopped noticing that you need care too.

This week I’ve been talking about making counselling more accessible, including letting parents know that babies are welcome in session if childcare is a barrier. Because I know that life is not always neat or convenient, and support should not only be available to people who can make everything fit perfectly.

But underneath that is something even more important to me: helping people recognise their worth.

If you are the person who is always “fine”, always coping, always carrying on whilst quietly struggling underneath, I want you to know that you do not have to do it all alone.

You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to need support. You matter too.

If you’ve been thinking about counselling, you can visit my website to get a feel for me and how I work. If it feels like a good fit, you’re very welcome to book a free introductory call.

🌿 Life has been full lately - ironing piling up, decorating part-done, tools everywhere, washing on the line, and a to-do list that keeps growing.

And in the middle of all that movement, I’m reminded again why counselling matters.

Because when life feels busy, messy, or just a lot, therapy is the pause. A moment to slow down, breathe, and be met exactly as you are.

🌿 Sometimes the first step into therapy can feel like the hardest one.

BACP have shared a really thoughtful post about what that first session might look and feel like — and it’s such a reassuring starting point if you’re curious about how therapy works.

If you’d like to get a sense of my approach — person‑centred, gentle, and shaped around you — you can explore more on my website. You’ll also find the option to book a short introductory call if you’d like to see how it feels to talk things through with me 👇🏼

🌿 It’s been a whirlwind lately - paint in my hair, laptop under my arm, my daughter learning at the dining table.

And somewhere between decorating, home ed, running a business and holding space for clients, I was reminded why therapy matters so much.

Because in the middle of real life - the messy, busy, very human real life - therapy is the pause.

A moment to stop, settle, and be met exactly where you are.

💙 Today is World Down’s Syndrome Day 💛

A day to honour the joy, strength, and individuality of people with Down’s syndrome - and to recognise the families, carers, and communities who walk alongside them.

For me, this day is personal.
I’m not just marking it as a counsellor, but as a mum. My daughter has Down’s syndrome, and she has shaped my life in ways that continue to deepen my compassion, my patience, and my understanding of what it means to meet someone exactly where they are.

I celebrate her every day, and today I’m joining a global community who are doing the same.

She’s taught me about presence, connection, and unconditional acceptance - lessons that sit quietly at the heart of my practice.

Today, I’m celebrating her, and every person with Down’s syndrome. Their voices matter. Their stories matter. Their futures matter.

If today is meaningful for you too, I’m sending warmth your way.
If you’re learning, curious, or wanting to understand more, thank you for being part of a more inclusive world.

💙💛

🌿 Sometimes the people who offer the most care to everyone else are the ones who struggle most to offer that same compassion to themselves.

If you’re used to holding everything together, putting others first, or feeling like your own needs have slipped to the bottom of the list, counselling can offer a space where you matter too.

You can visit my website to get a feel for me and how I work, and if it feels like we might be a good fit, you’re very welcome to book a free introductory call from there.

🌿 If childcare is a barrier, babies are welcome in my sessions.

In this busy and tender season of life, you deserve support - and there’s a chair here waiting for you.

Whether we meet online or in person, you’re welcome exactly as you are, with all the real-life messiness that comes with parenting. Therapy doesn’t need to be quiet or uninterrupted. It just needs to be a space where you can breathe.

“I’d really like to talk to someone… but I can’t leave the baby...”

Accessing therapy isn’t always easy when you’re a parent.

Many parents want support but face a very practical barrier — childcare.

I want people to know that if you’re attending counselling with me and bringing your baby makes it possible for you to come, that’s absolutely okay.

Babies are welcome in sessions.

We can sit comfortably on the floor with a play mat, you can feed or settle your baby as needed, and we simply work around whatever your little one needs in the moment. Breastfeeding is completely welcome too.

Therapy doesn’t have to mean finding perfect childcare or waiting until life feels less busy. Sometimes the most important thing is simply having a space where you can talk and be supported.

As a parent myself, I care deeply about making therapy as accessible as possible for real life.

I offer:
• In-person counselling in Grimsby
• Online sessions across the UK
• Evening and weekend appointments

If you’ve been thinking about reaching out but childcare has been a barrier, you’re very welcome to get in touch or book a free introductory call through my website 👇www.therapywithlisawastney.com

Sometimes support just needs to fit around life.

🌿 This week I’ve been talking about the introductory call - that first gentle conversation before starting therapy.

And I want to reassure you: you don’t need perfect words.

Many people begin with “I’m not sure where to start,” and that’s completely okay.

The call is free, and we take it slowly.

You don’t need to decide anything during the call - it’s simply a space to ask questions, get a feel for me, and see whether it feels right for you.

Whenever you’re ready, there’s a chair here waiting for you 🌱

🌿 You don’t need the perfect words…

Many people worry about what to say when they reach out.
They imagine they need a clear story, a neat summary, or the “right” starting point.
You don’t.

It’s completely okay to begin with:
“I’m not sure where to start.”
“I just know things aren’t right.”
“I think I need some support.”

You don’t need perfect words to begin a conversation about how you’re feeling.

In our introductory call, we take it slowly.
You can pause, take your time, and share only what feels manageable.

If therapy has been on your mind, this might be a gentle next step.

If it feels helpful, you can find out more about how I work on my website.

🌿 What is an intro call?

An introductory call isn’t an assessment, an interview, or a commitment.
It’s simply a gentle conversation - a chance for you to get a feel for me, and for us to see whether working together feels right.

You don’t need to have a clear story or the perfect words.
Many people begin with, “I’m not sure where to begin,” and that’s completely okay.
The call is free, and we take it slowly. You can share as much or as little as you want.

We might talk about what’s been feeling heavy, what you’re hoping for, and what helps you feel safe and supported.
There’s no pressure to decide anything on the spot - the call is simply a first connection.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy, this can be a gentle next step.
I offer online and in-person counselling from Grimsby, and we’ll move at your pace, one conversation at a time.

If you’d like to know more about how I work, you can find details on my website:

On International Women’s Day, I’m celebrating every woman who keeps showing up — even when life feels heavy, overwhelming, or quietly exhausting.

So many women carry stress, grief, burnout, people‑pleasing, the mental load, and the pressure to hold everything together. If that’s been your experience lately, you deserve a space where YOU get to breathe.

I offer person‑centred counselling in Grimsby (and online), creating a calm, confidential space — just like the one in this photo — where you can talk, feel, and be heard without judgement.

If you’re curious about what support could look like for you, I’d love to help you take that first step.

And thank you to everyone who continues to support my little practice — it means more than you know.
