What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

If you’ve been researching treatments for joint pain, sports injuries, or slow-healing soft tissue problems, you may have come across Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, often called PRP. It's becoming more and more popular as time goes on.

PRP is a treatment that uses a small sample of your own blood to help your body heal naturally. It is used in orthopaedics to support recovery from injuries, reduce inflammation, and improve joint function, without the need for surgery.

How it Works

Your blood is made up of different components:

Red blood cells – carry oxygen
White blood cells – fight infection
Platelets – help with clotting and release special “growth factors” that repair tissue

In PRP therapy, we take a small amount of your blood, gently spin it in a specialised machine to separate the platelets, and concentrate them into a rich solution. This platelet-rich plasma contains a much higher level of healing growth factors than normal blood.

We then carefully inject this PRP directly into the injured area, for example, into a knee joint, a tendon, or a muscle.

Those growth factors signal your body to repair damaged tissue, reduce inflammation, and promote new healthy cells.

If you have any questions about this treatment, or any other questions in general, please do reach out to our friendly team. The link to our website can be found in our bio!
