🗣 Meet our Freedom to Speak Up Guardian: Melany Jacob

Melany, Biomedical Scientist at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital, brings 26 years of pathology experience to her role as a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian. Her career spans international healthcare settings, including Germany and Cromwell Hospital, before joining Nuffield Health Pathology 17 years ago.

In 2025, Melany stepped into the Guardian role alongside Paula Hoey, helping to foster a culture where every voice is valued and concerns are met with care and respect.

As part of Speak Up Month, we’re proud to recognise Melany’s dedication to building a workplace rooted in safety, inclusion, and trust.

🎗 Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital

On Thursday, staff and patients at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital came together to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a charity raffle in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

The event was held in recognition of the charity’s annual “Wear It Pink” campaign, which raises vital funds for breast cancer research and support services. With generous donations from both colleagues and patients, the raffle helped shine a light on the importance of early detection, ongoing research, and compassionate care.

Thank you to everyone who took part, donated, wore pink to show their support and most importantly, the oncology team for arranging. Your kindness helps make a real difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

At the Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital, our One Stop Breast Clinics are offered 3 times a week. Here we offer rapid access to consultant-led assessment to discuss and check your symptoms. Using state-of-the-art technology for imaging, we get quick results the same day to ease your concerns.

Consider booking a breast screening if you notice:

• A lump or swelling in the breast, armpit, or upper chest
• Changes in breast size, shape, or skin texture (e.g. dimpling or puckering)
• Nipple changes (inversion, shape, rash, crusting, or discharge)
• Redness or inflammation of the breast
• Persistent pain in the breast or armpit

On Monday, we came together for our annual Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning, celebrating community spirit with a classic bake sale in aid of this vital charity. From homemade traybakes to shop-bought favourites, every slice and sip helped raise funds for people living with cancer.

Thanks to the generosity of staff, patients, and visitors, we raised a fantastic £400—a meaningful contribution to Macmillan’s ongoing work providing emotional, practical, and financial support.

A big thank you, as always, to our incredible Oncology nursing team for organising the event and bringing everyone together.
