Birtley House is family-owned and family-run. The family endeavours to ensure that residents feel they have merely ‘moved home’ and not moved ‘into a home’.

A family-run nursing home for over 90 years, the ethos within Birtley House is on the care of the whole person including their social, holistic, and general wellbeing needs, not just their medical needs. The Whalley family are dedicated to providing the highest levels of care and quality of life for all our residents. Birtley House offers full nursing care, respite care, rehabilitation and end-of-life care services. For those who are not ready for care but would benefit from daily support to live independently, we have supported living flats on-site (Birtley Mews), which are spacious and have exceptional views out to the countryside. Caring for the whole person is a vital part of the ethos of life at Birtley House: we have active links with the local community, an imaginative activities programme, and a supportive pastoral team comprising a chaplain, counsellor, companions, and wellbeing mentors

Always fun at Birtley House!

Last week, our residents took part in the global NAPA Tea Party, enjoying a wonderful afternoon of music and laughter.

Entertainment was provided by Matthew and his ukulele, creating a joyful atmosphere for everyone.

Today, 20th March, marks the first day of spring. With longer days and new life all around us, our residents were delighted to receive a beautiful bunch of daffodils each from our wonderful local pub, The Red Lion Inn, Shamley Green.

This thoughtful surprise brought a burst of sunshine into their rooms and, most importantly, genuine smiles to every face.

Its these small acts of kindness and sense of community that make such a meaningful difference.

Thank you, The Red Lion, Shamley Green you truly brightened our day.

Thinking about future care for yourself or a loved one?

Join us on Thursday 19th March for an informative and welcoming event at Birtley House Nursing Home in Bramley.

We’re delighted to be joined by a guest speaker from Stevens & Bolton LLP, who will be discussing Advance Care Planning and the legal documents it is beneficial to have in place.

Our Chairman will also be sharing our story of care over the past 80 years, reflecting on the journey since Birtley House first opened in Bramley and how care has evolved through the decades.

Our wonderful activities team always makes sure milestone birthdays are celebrated in style – especially for our long-standing residents.

This week, the lovely Maggie, who has been part of the Birtley House Family for 5 years, celebrated her incredible 100th Birthday!

To make the occasion even more memorable, Maggie received a personalized congratulatory card from His Majesty The King, delivered by Royal Mail in its distinctive envelope – a truly special moment.

Reaching 100 years is such a remarkable milestone, and we feel so privileged to share it with her.

Life always finds a way to bloom, and these pictures show the new shoots are starting to poke through the soil after the storm. Even on chilly days, our garden remains a continual source of joy and hope. Seeing these tiny greens push-through reminds us that spring is on its way, bringing lighter days and, with them, brighter weather. We cannot wait to see these shoots unfold into colour in our award- winning garden.

The family who own and run Birtley House are dedicated to providing the highest levels of care and quality of life for all our Residents. Birtley House has been awarded 'PLATINUM’ status as part of the prestigious Gold Standards Framework (GSF), which reflects the dedication of staff across all departments to deliver the best and most compassionate care to our Residents. Birtley House offers full Nursing Care, Respite Care, Rehabilitation, end-of-life care and Day Club services. In addition, we have supported living flats on site (Birtley Mews) where we can provide care via our Birtley Care at Home service, if required. Caring for the whole person is a vital part of the ethos of life at Birtley House: we have active links with the local community, an imaginative activities programme and a supportive Pastoral team comprising a Chaplain, Counsellor, Companions, Wellbeing Mentors and Volunteers.
