Today we've had a visit from .photography (on instagram) to take photos of the kids and animals. Look out for her work in our upcoming Facebook posts. Here she is with an Levi, our Crested Gecko who's in quite the exploratory mood.

Never be afraid to ask, you can save someone’s life.

Never be afraid to ask, you can save someone’s life.

Most people struggling with thoughts of su***de find a way to communicate that they need help, sometimes at an unconscious level. However, sometimes these warning signs can be missed, dismissed or avoided.

Sometimes the potential warning signs are very subtle. A person thinking about su***de may appear to be okay, or even cheerful. Sometimes, particularly if someone has been ill for a long time with depression, making a decision to die by su***de can bring them some relief and their mood can appear to improve.

But no list is complete, and people are very individual. Be alert to changes in someone that might cause you to be worried. Any of these 'warning signs' might not be connected with thoughts of su***de. The only way to be sure whether someone is thinking about su***de is to ask.

‘NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW THE PAIN I FEEL INSIDE’

This is a quote and artwork of ‘Stony’, Antonio Russo (1965 - 2022), who used his street inspired work to help express himself both negatively and positively after a brain tumour diagnosis in 2019. I find all of his art very powerful.

No one ever knows what it’s like to be you, existentially we are alone, but in counselling, I build a therapeutic relationship with clients based on empathy, congruence, trust and unconditional positive regard, facilitating them to explore their experiences and emotions with a professional therapist.

Over 15 years I have had the privilege of witnessing the success of this approach as I enable people to encounter a safe space where they can be truly themselves. If you want to know more or talk about my therapy practice, please do message me.

Counselling helps with the exploration of the reasons behind emotional overload and uncomfortable feelings. It's common to view emotions and feelings as either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ when in fact, we’re complex beings and it’s normal to experience a whole spectrum of feelings, without them, we’d be cold, dispassionate and unresponsive. Remember, all emotions are telling us something, giving us a message so stop and listen. In the meantime, here are some tips to help when feeling dysfegulated.

Are you always saying sorry, wanting everyone to like you and trying to please? This is very common and I often work with people to help them understand the reasons, because self-awareness can lead to positive change. There can be many complex reasons but the diagram below is a good example of where to start. Let me know your thoughts 🤔

Love this. It reminds us of this advice from Laura, 21:

“Each morning, I mentally check in with myself to assess my mindset for the day ahead. This habit enables me to recognise my feelings, which helps me to better manage my emotions throughout the day. Also, I like to write my feelings down each morning to ensure that I continue my day with a clear and decluttered mindset.”

It’s not complicated & we can all do it & make a difference to others, sometimes without ever knowing the full effect 😊

‘Huxley is reported to have made this statement during a television interview with journalist Mike Wallace in 1958, reflecting on the insights he had gained throughout his life. It encapsulates a sentiment that, despite the complexity of human knowledge and achievement, simple acts of kindness remain profoundly impactful.’ Philosophy Daily.
