What stories do you tell yourself about your capabilities and reasons for not doing things?
This beautiful lady has been working with me for six years, each week working on her mobility, flexibility, strength, listening skills and confidence.
When we began our journey together there was no trust. As a non verbal person with very limited mobility, a new person coming into her space was not something she was happy about. We had to find a way to work together, figuring each other out, ways to communicate, ways to interact, ways to help. As the weeks went on, the difficulty of the things we were doing increased, the trust we had in each other cemented, the ways we interacted with each other became smoother.
6 years down the line, where walking was once tough, she can now walk quickly on a treadmill with an incline. When walking unsupported was a challenge, she can now balance on one leg. Getting up and down was a job for several people, but now she can use a prop to get up and down herself with ease.
What I offer in additional needs sessions is friendship, confidence boosting, strengthening, opportunity. I believe anyone can improve their health, fitness and strength with the right tools and the right support.
Yoga is for everyone. Not every class is for everyone and that’s ok, but how can we point new students in the right direction? How can we support everyone to succeed? If you don’t have the right skills as a teacher to support someone, help them find someone who can 🫶🏻
If you are looking for someone to guide someone you know through 1:1 sessions or small group sessions in a specialist centre, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I love what I do and love the students I work with.
This lady will always have a very special place in my heart 🥰 Keep working hard, keep smiling and most of all, keep being you 🫶🏻
💙
