It's World Mental Health Day 💙

Today is a chance to talk openly about mental health and remind ourselves that support is always available.

At Mount Alvernia Hospital, we recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health. Whether you're facing ongoing challenges or supporting someone who is, you're not alone.

We also know that needing medical care can feel overwhelming. Whether it's a long-term concern or simply nerves before a procedure, our teams are here to support you. We take your emotional wellbeing seriously and always aim to provide care that’s compassionate, respectful and reassuring.

On the way to 25k! 💚

Frankie, one of our wonderful Patient Administrators at the main reception desk, has been a dedicated supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Sober October campaign for the past eight years. Over that time, she’s raised an incredible £23,481, an amazing achievement!

This year, Frankie is participating for the ninth time and is committed to reaching her £25,000 goal. All funds go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support, contributing to their vital research and support for those navigating a cancer diagnosis.

At Mount Alvernia, we are all wishing Frankie the very best with her campaign. To track her progress, you can scan the QR code below or visit the following link: https://www.gosober.org.uk/users/francoise-connor-2?login=true

Yesterday, we marked World Pharmacy Day by recognising the important work of our Pharmacy team.

Our pharmacists play a key role in supporting patient care and ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines across the hospital. To celebrate, the team shared what they value most about their profession and why their work matters.

Thank you to our Pharmacy team for everything you do!

"I had a minor procedure at Mount Alvernia and wanted to praise the whole team involved in my care: the consultant, the anaesthetist, the nurses and the person who kindly made me the best sandwich and cup of tea afterwards! Thank you all."

If you or a loved one are navigating menopause, you’re not alone.

Menopause occurs naturally when periods stop due to lower hormone levels. It most commonly affects women between the ages of 45 and 55, though it can happen earlier.

Join our next free webinar to learn how exercise can support the menopause journey. An expert physiotherapist will share practical advice to help manage common symptoms such as hot flushes, fatigue, and brain fog, while also reducing incontinence, easing discomfort, and helping to prevent prolapse.

Can’t attend live? No problem. Register anyway and you’ll be able to watch the event on-demand, at a time that suits you.

It’s National Housekeeping Week!💙

This week, we are celebrating our incredible housekeeping team at Mount Alvernia Hospital. They help ensure our hospital is a clean, safe and welcoming environment for all patients, family and friends, and staff.

Their attention to detail, dedication and care make a real difference to everyone who visits the hospital. Whether it’s preparing patient rooms, maintaining shared spaces, or supporting infection prevention, their work is essential to the care we provide.

On Monday, we held a stand for Sepsis Awareness Day, encouraging staff from across the hospital to test their knowledge and learn more about sepsis.

The stall was organised by Becki, our IPC Lead, and gave colleagues the chance to explore key facts, understand symptoms and risk factors, and take part in a short quiz.

The Imaging Team scored the highest, winning the quiz, with Pharmacy close behind in second place!

Today is World Patient Safety Day, a day to reflect on one of the most important parts of healthcare: keeping patients safe.

At Mount Alvernia Hospital, patient safety isn’t just a priority, it’s engrained in everything we do. From the way we prepare for procedures to how we communicate with patients, patient safety comes first.

Today, we want to recognise our teams across the hospital who go above and beyond to protect patients, whether that’s through infection control, clear communication, or simply taking the time to listen. We are committed to making sure every patient feels safe, supported and cared for.
