This September, we are supporting Urology Awareness Month, highlighting conditions affecting the bladder, kidneys, prostate, and male reproductive system.

Many people experience symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent infections, blood in the urine and testicular or pelvic pain. Though these symptoms can be worrying, they’re also treatable.

At Mount Alvernia Hospital, our urology specialists are here to help you understand what’s going on and guide you through your options, whether that’s lifestyle changes, medication, or surgery.

We understand that it’s not always easy to talk about these things, but beginning the conversation is the first step to feeling better.

You can learn more about the urology services offered at Mount Alvernia Hospital via our website page: https://www.circlehealthgroup.co.uk/hospitals/mount-alvernia-hospital/private-urology-guildford

This week, we sadly said goodbye to Andre Bothma, our Executive Director.

Andre is relocating to Wales and taking up the Executive Director position at Werndale Hospital, also part of Circle Health Group.

We are all incredibly grateful for his contributions to Mount Alvernia over the past two years. Though he will be missed, we are all wishing him the very best of luck with this new chapter!

Happy Feedback Friday! 💙

'I cannot praise Mount Alvernia Hospital and its staff enough for the quality of care I received during my operation. My orthopaedic surgeon was outstanding, as were the rest of the team, including the physiotherapists, nurses, their assistants, kitchen staff, and porters. I can't thank them enough.'

We are making great progress with our garden renovation project at Mount Alvernia Hospital, and the restaurant patio is already looking brighter and more welcoming! 💚

With the weeds cleared in our first session, it was the perfect time to bring in some colour and life. Our wonderful team spent the afternoon potting plants and decorating the space.

We are very grateful to everyone who gave their time to help. Their efforts are making a real difference to our shared spaces, creating a calmer environment for all.

5 years of service! 💙

We recently congratulated Sam Miller, Lead Theatre Practitioner, on her fifth year working at Mount Alvernia Hospital!

Over the past five years, Sam has made a real difference to patients, colleagues and the wider theatre team. We were proud to recognise her dedication with a card and gift!

Congratulations, Sam!

To wrap up our week of fundraising and awareness for Breast Cancer Now, we hosted a bake sale in our main reception and St Martha's waiting areas.

Our wonderful staff baked some amazing cakes and sweet treats, pictured in the slides below. We have currently raised £471, but there's still time to donate! If you wanted to contribute to Breast Cancer Now's vital research or track our fundraising efforts, you can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/team/mountalvernia

As we come to the end of the week, we wanted to share a video that highlights the importance of early detection. The following song is part of the and is a powerful anthem for breast cancer awareness. You can listen to the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeaO2BrrIf8

Today, we are proud to share the inspiring story of Julie, a former patient at Mount Alvernia Hospital.

As part of our awareness and fundraising week in support of Breast Cancer Now, we are highlighting the importance of early detection, understanding your risk, and seeking help for any concerning symptoms. Stories like Julie’s offer a glimpse into the patient journey at Mount Alvernia and help raise awareness of breast cancer’s impact.

Our next Patient Forum is on the 24th of September, and we are on the look-out for previous Mount Alvernia patients to contribute feedback, thoughts and suggestions on the hospital's services.

It’s a chance to share your thoughts, feedback and suggestions to help us improve our services and continue delivering patient-centred care.

We are also preparing for our next PLACE assessment (Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment) on 29 October. If you would like to help us review the hospital environment, your perspective would be truly valued.

Breast Cancer Now is a charity dedicated to supporting everyone affected by breast cancer. Their upcoming fundraising initiative, the Afternoon Tea, encourages businesses and communities to host tea-themed events to raise money for life-changing research and support services.

In support of this, we are hosting a bake sale on Friday 15th August to raise funds for breast cancer research. Throughout the week, we’ll also be dedicating time to raising awareness and sharing helpful information and resources about breast cancer within the hospital.

The cake sale will take place in both our main reception waiting area and the St Martha's Oncology ward waiting area.
