Last Tuesday, the Mount Alvernia Green Team hosted a Sustainability Day in the hospital restaurant as part of our ongoing commitment to creating a greener, more environmentally conscious hospital.

Staff across the hospital took part in the interactive activities, including a waste‑segregation competition where individuals and departments tested their recycling knowledge. Staff also explored stalls covering topics such as the sustainability of IPC practices, the environmental impact of paper versus plastic cups, and practical, eco‑friendly swaps people can make at home.

We also held a charity raffle, raising £117 for the Halow Project, a local charity supporting adults with autism in Surrey. The winners took home sustainable swaps for their everyday items.

As a hospital, we recognise that caring for people also means protecting the environment they live in. 💚

This week, we have been proudly celebrating International Women’s Day, recognising the incredible women who help shape the Mount Alvernia Hospital community and the care we provide every day.

Women across our hospital play vital roles in supporting patients, from our knowledgeable physiotherapists and specialist consultants to our dedicated nursing, pharmacy and administrative teams, all committed to providing safe, compassionate and personalised care.

To mark the week, our REDI group arranged a small gesture of appreciation with flowers and a sweet treat for women across the hospital, while also raising awareness of key health issues women continue to face and sharing helpful resources and support. Thank you to Petals of Walton for supplying the flowers for our staff.

At Mount Alvernia, we remain committed to championing women’s health and celebrating the contribution women make to our hospital and the care we provide.

“My overall experience at Mount Alvernia hospital was very positive. From the outset, the administrative process was efficient and well coordinated. The reception team were courteous and organised and the clinical care was of a high standard. The nursing staff were professional, attentive, and patient-centred in their approach. I felt listened to throughout. Decisions were made collaboratively, and there was no sense of unnecessary intervention. Waiting times were minimal, and the overall experience reflected good clinical governance and attention to patient experience. I would recommend this hospital to others seeking timely, professional, and well-coordinated private healthcare.” 💙

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of endometriosis and the impact it can have on the day‑to‑day lives of many women.

It is estimated that around 10% of women of reproductive age are affected by endometriosis. It is a chronic medical condition that occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) grows outside the uterus.

Although it is a benign (non‑cancerous) condition, it can significantly affect the quality of life of those living with it.

Support for endometriosis is available. At Mount Alvernia Hospital, we have a range of gynaecologists who can discuss symptoms of endometriosis, offer guidance, and recommend appropriate treatment options.

To find out more about our gynaecology services, you can visit the Mount Alvernia Hospital website: https://www.circlehealthgroup.co.uk/hospitals/mount-alvernia-hospital/private-gynaecology-guildford
