🌿Hi, I’m Jane and and this is why I started Resilient Kids.

It all came from frustration.

I kept seeing kids being pushed, labelled, and squeezed into boxes they just didn’t fit into. So many were losing confidence, shutting down, or feeling like they weren’t ā€œenoughā€ just because they didn’t fit a narrow version of success.

I wanted to create a space where children could just be.
Be curious. Be quiet. Be creative. Be themselves.

That’s how Resilient Kids was born.

I’ve been a teacher since 1997, working across a range of schools - state, private, and international and I’ve seen first-hand how easily children’s individuality can be overlooked. I'm also a mum to two young adults, now 20 and 18, so this comes from both professional and lived experience. I understand how important it is to nurture a child’s confidence and emotional wellbeing, especially when they don’t always fit the mould.

Everything I do is shaped around your child’s unique needs. It’s about helping them feel capable, confident, and proud of who they are not who they’re told to be.

At the heart of it all are three simple values:

‣ VISION – creating possibilities and supporting their unique potential
‣ VITALITY – helping them feel good in themselves, inside and out
‣ VOICE – making sure they feel seen, heard, and valued

If any of this resonates, I’d love to hear from you.

Where have you enjoyed a moment of peace today?

During this morning’s cycle to a teaching ā€œmissionā€, I enjoyed my yogurt brekkie by this yew tree and then found some off the beaten tracks to explore.

A small selection of the Wellfest stallholders met at Devere Horsley Estate last week to explore, and get very excited about the venue!

Took a stroll into Guildford after hosting my monthly ā€œGuildford Buzz" networking group . I discovered the was open, which lead to a whole series of adventures and encounters, including an impromptu tour called ā€œBrief Livesā€ with a wonderful town guide.

The final photo is in the Castle grounds, the flowers are absolutely stunning there at mo (didn’t take a photo though šŸ™ˆ).

I love taking children that I work with into Guildford to bring learning alive. They particularly enjoy seeing Alice Through the Looking Glass and even better the milkshake after!

Ten years ago today, we returned from our two-year family adventure in Tanzania, an unforgettable, life-enhancing experience.

It was Paul, Luke, Ellie (aged 6 and 8 at the time), and me. I was teaching at an international school in Arusha and kept a blog of our journey called No Regrets.

We’re still so grateful for everything we learned, shared, and discovered and for the incredible international friendships we made along the way.

Paul took time away from the ITV news desk and kept busy with a range of journalism projects, including undercover work on elephant poaching. Before we left, he also trained as a first aid instructor and went on to deliver training to most of the school staff and well beyond.

He returned a little earlier for work, so this is one of the photos he captured at the airport!

šŸŖ²šŸžšŸ›BUGLIFE - national charity focusing on protection of invertebrates, are doing a big Lottery funding bid for habitat restoration of grassland areas supporting rare species around Surrey and want to include The Mount and Rosamund Community Gardens/Pewley Meadows as two of the focus sites which is really exciting.

The survey took me 2 minutes to complete:

We are seeking funding for an exciting new project in Surrey that will restore up to 30 hectares of chalk grassland habitat within B-Lines on the Surrey Hills. Sadly, a lot of our flower-rich grassland, including chalk grassland have been lost over the past century due to urbanisation, intensive agr...

ā€œWow I didn’t recognise the class Jane, they were so calm, settled and focused!ā€ said the teaching assistant in Year 5, where I was covering for the day.

ā€œIt’s because I had some freedom and creative license to weave in wellbeing, creativity and fun here and there.ā€

ā€œWell it worked!ā€
Why has it become so OK and normal for schools to overwhelm and cram kids with the curriculum? Most can’t sit down and listen all day and like me, often can’t wait to get away to play. They need time and space to just BE.

Some friendships are just easy.

This is my lovely friend Claire. We met at antenatal classes and spent loads of time together when our kids were little. She was the kind of friend I could just call and say, ā€œAre you around?ā€ and she’d say, ā€œCome over.ā€ No planning weeks ahead, no pressure just show up.

Our kids loved being together, and we got through the early parenting days side by side. Later on, we lived in different areas, so as the school years came along, we didn’t see each other as much. But the friendship stuck. We even managed a few festivals and random gigs along the way (because why not?).

Now most of our kids are off to uni or getting ready to go, and Claire still has a younger one in school. Life looks different, but that connection is still there easy, familiar, rooted in a shared history.

It’s a good reminder: Connection doesn’t have to be constant to be real. The people who’ve seen us through the messy, unfiltered bits of life are the ones who tend to last.

And maybe that’s something to show our kids too that real friendship doesn’t need perfection or performance. Just presence, trust, and a bit of showing up when it matters, and some fun and laughter!
