As part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, I’ll be giving a talk this weekend Queen Elizabeth Park Care Home alongside the lovely celebrant Jill Green - Celebrant

Together, we’ll be opening up honest and compassionate conversations about end-of-life care, planning ahead, and why it’s so important to talk about our wishes with those around us. These discussions may not always be easy, but they truly matter.

If you’re attending, we look forward to welcoming you and sharing this important conversation together.

Can you help? 🧶

We are planning to create a poppy field at both churches for Remembrance Sunday this year, these will be along the roadside on the banks around the notice boards, and at St Mary’s hopefully all the way up to the church. This will take a big community effort, we plan to contact local clubs and organisations to help. The knitted or crochet poppies will be fixed to small garden canes later in the year. If you have relatives, friends or neighbours who can knit or crochet please ask them to help. We need a huge amount of poppies so that’s why we are starting early! We have patterns and wool available from both churches and patterns by email from the church office.
Can’t knit or crochet? You can still be part of the project by sponsoring a ball of wool. The current cost is £2.20 per ball, you can make a donation through BACS Ref ‘Poppy wool’ or in cash to the office or to our wardens. If you have any spare red double knit wool do pass it to us we would gladly use it! 🧶

At Robert Ayling, we believe in giving back to the community we’re honoured to serve 💙

We are super proud to be collaborating with Jill Green - Celebrant and supporting Cressida Ward of Burrows Lea Country House as they open their stunning serene venue for funeral services whether it’s inside the Harry Edward’s chapel or outside overlooking the picturesque view of the Surrey hills. Supporting our local community and building meaningful connections is what we do best. 🌿

Together, we create a stronger, more compassionate community and farewells with meaning.

Today, everyone at Robert Ayling Funeral Directors would like to recognise and commend all those who took part in the London Marathon.

Your dedication, resilience, and determination are truly inspiring. We know that for many, this was more than just a race — it was a deeply personal journey, taken in memory of loved ones who are sadly no longer with us.

To those who ran carrying the names, stories, and memories of someone special, we honour you. Your strength is a powerful reminder that love endures, and that those we have lost are never forgotten.

From all of us at Robert Ayling Funeral Directors, we are thinking of you today and sending our heartfelt respect and support.

We are truly humbled to receive such kind words from a family we recently had the privilege of supporting.

At such a difficult time, it means so much to know that our care, compassion, and attention to detail brought comfort when it was needed most. Supporting families through their loss is not just our profession—it is a responsibility we carry with great respect and dignity.

Our heartfelt thanks to the family for allowing us to be part of such an important farewell, and for sharing their gratitude with us. 💙

A peaceful start to the day at Silent Pool, Guildford 🌿

As a funeral director, attending this morning’s breakfast meeting in support of Sam & Beare Hospice was especially meaningful. Set against the calm and beauty of Silent Pool, it was a privilege to connect with others who share a commitment to supporting families with care and compassion.

Partnerships like these truly matter—ensuring that dignity, understanding, and support continue through every stage of life.

Grateful for the conversations, the setting, and the shared purpose.

I’m delighted to share that I’m now working in collaboration with Cressida Ward of Burrows Lea Country House and Emma Carpen of Robert Ayling Funeral Directors as Burrows Lea opens its magnificent and deeply peaceful venue for funeral services.

From the moment you arrive at Burrows Lea, there’s a sense of stillness that’s hard to put into words. The grounds hold a deep, quiet peace, shaped by the long history of the Harry Edwards Foundation and its commitment to healing, compassion, and spiritual care. It’s a place where people have come for decades to find comfort — and now, families will be able to gather here to honour their loved ones in surroundings that genuinely support reflection and gentleness.

For me, it’s a privilege to be part of this new chapter. Creating ceremonies in a space with such heart and heritage feels like a natural extension of the work I love: helping families feel held, supported, and able to say goodbye in a way that feels true to them.

I’m looking forward to walking alongside families in this beautiful setting as they celebrate life, love, and legacy.

Today we honor National Death Doula Day 🕊️

Death doulas offer compassion, presence, and guidance during one of life’s most profound transitions. They hold space for individuals and families, helping navigate end-of-life with dignity, comfort, and humanity.

In a world that often avoids conversations about death, death doulas remind us that it’s okay to talk about it, plan for it, and approach it with care.

Let’s take a moment to acknowledge the vital work they do—supporting not just a peaceful passing, but meaningful, supported care at the end of life.

What flowers would you choose for your final farewell? 🌸

Every bloom carries a meaning, telling a story of love, remembrance, and the life being honoured. 🌿
🌹 Red roses speak of deep love and respect
🤍 Lilies symbolise peace and the soul’s return to innocence
💜 Lavender reflects grace, calm, and devotion
🌻 Sunflowers represent warmth, loyalty, and a life full of light

Your choice can be a reflection of your personality, your journey, or the way you wish to be remembered.

A final farewell is deeply personal—what would your flowers say about you?
