Did you know people living with diabetes are eligible for a FREE flu vaccine across the UK?

If you have diabetes and get the flu, you are more at risk of being unwell for longer and developing more serious complications like pneumonia. It can also make diabetes harder to manage.

Get in touch with your GP or local community pharmacy to book an appointment. To find out more about diabetes and the flu, including what to do in your region, head to https://orlo.uk/flu-jab_U2PYb

Last weekend, we joined the Celebration of Heritage and Creativity hosted by the African Community in Surrey and Sussex at Horley Community Centre to mark Black History Month.

We were joined by the Surrey Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and Healthwatch Surrey to raise awareness around the importance of eyesight tests and of regular diabetic eye screening for people who have been diagnosed with diabetes.

World Deaf Day

Making the invisible visible. 🌻

430 million people across the world live with disabling hearing loss.

Hearing loss occurs for different reasons and can lead to feelings of isolation.

But there are ways to include the Deaf community and those who are hard of hearing.

Sign language interpreters play a vital role in ensuring access and participation for the Deaf community. The use of captioning is a simple yet effective solution to ensure that communication is accessible during meetings, concerts, presentations, theatre performances, and many other events.

Simple steps, such as facing the person you are talking to so they can lip-read. Moving to a quieter and well-lit area can also help.

Have a pen and paper handy or use the notes function on your phone to write down what you want to say.

And remember the three Rs: repeat, repeat, rephrase.

We are proud to work with European Federation of Hard of Hearing People to bring greater awareness.
