I began my career as a nutritionist specialising in food intolerances and sensitivities, initially focusing on diet as the core to healing. However, over time in my practice, I noticed a crucial pattern: many of my clients were stressed, time poor and taking PPIs (Omeprazole, Lansoprazole) for reflux. Many clients were also looking for a quick fix — such as a food intolerance test.

I realised that addressing diet alone wasn’t enough. Clients needed more than nutritional advice — they needed tools to manage their stress, overcome overwhelm, and implement lasting changes. This insight drove me to train as an accredited coach, which fundamentally transformed my practice.

I discovered that stress and lifestyle were often the real barriers to healing. Through coaching, I learned how to help clients move beyond those barriers, empowering them to take control of their health instead of relying on restrictive diets or isolated tests.

The answers aren’t just in what you eat — they’re in how you live, how you think, and how you respond to stress. I help people to start healing — not with quick fixes, but with real, lasting change that transforms lives.

It happens in medicine too.

You walk into your GP appointment exhausted.
Your body feels like it’s on fire — throat burning, burping constantly, nauseous, maybe even vomiting.

You’ve waited weeks for this 10-minute slot.
You get 30 seconds in… and you’re handed a prescription for Lansoprazole.

A few questions.
No real conversation.
Just a label — “It’s reflux.”
And a pill.

But what about the rest of your story?
What about the fact that food is becoming scary?
That your sleep is broken, your throat burns all day, and you're not even sure what's safe to eat anymore?

You deserve more than 10 minutes and medication.
You deserve to be heard.

I’m offering a free 30-minute Reflux Relief Call — no pressure, no prescription pad. Just a chance to talk about your symptoms, your experience, and start piecing together what’s really going on.

Constantly clearing your throat? It might not be a habit — it might be silent reflux.

That tickle. That urge to clear your throat all day long.
Like something’s always stuck — but nothing ever is.

It’s one of the common symptoms of silent reflux.

Your throat burns all day.
You’re burping constantly — like hot gas rising up and leaving you raw. You’ve cut out everything: tomatoes, coffee, citrus, dairy, gluten… and still, no relief.

You’re left thinking:

“Am I eating the wrong things… or not eating enough of the right things?”
“Why is even water hard to handle at night?”
“What’s left for me to eat?”

If you're feeling lost, restricted, and scared of your own meals — isn't it time something changed?

The truth is, reflux isn't just about avoiding trigger foods. It's about understanding how, when, and what you eat in a way that actually supports your healing.

If you're ready to feel more confident about what’s on your plate (and in your body)...

Is healthy food like fruit a trigger for your reflux?

A reflux client asked me recently about what types of fruit she 'should' or 'shouldn't' eat. The answer is that depends ... and that is often the answer because we are all different.

General advice would be to avoid citrus fruits like oranges, lemons limes or grapefruit. There are some fruits that are lower in acid such as bananas and some types of melon. However, my advice would be try eating small amounts of fruit one at a time to see if they are a personal trigger for you.

Most people think reflux is just heartburn after a big meal — but there’s so much more to it.

What you eat, drink, or even do during the day can make your symptoms worse… and you might not even realise it.

Some triggers don’t cause obvious symptoms right away — they cause something called silent reflux, where damage happens quietly, often overnight. You might not feel heartburn at all…
But if you’re constantly clearing your throat, coughing, or waking up hoarse, your body is trying to tell you something.

The good news? Relief starts with understanding your unique triggers.

Book a Reflux Relief Call with me and let’s uncover what’s really going on — so you can start feeling better.

Struggling with heartburn?

Heartburn occurs when stomach acid flows back into the oesophagus, leading to a burning sensation in the chest.

Occasional heartburn is common, but frequent episodes might indicate Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Understanding the distinction is crucial for effective treatment and prevention of potential complications.

Certain foods are notorious for triggering heartburn. Common culprits include:

- Spicy dishes

- Citrus fruits

- Tomato-based products

- Chocolate

- Caffeinated beverages

Hi, I’m Lisa McPherson, if we haven't met before I'm a Registered Nutritionist and featured expert on the Digestion with Confidence website. I am so proud to be part of organised by .

I specialise in reflux, food intolerances, food sensitivities, and gut health—and I work with clients who feel like food is the enemy, when in fact, the real issue is often poor digestion or poor gut health.

One of the first questions I tend to ask new clients is:
“Are you taking a PPI (like lansoprazole)?”

Why? Because while PPIs reduce stomach acid to ease reflux symptoms, we need stomach acid to properly break down protein. Without it, undigested proteins can pass through the gut wall and trigger food sensitivity symptoms.

You should never stop taking any prescribed medication without consulting your doctor.

But if you're curious about the long-term impact of PPIs and what could be driving your symptoms, read my latest blog here, link is in the comments.

Taking PPIs for Reflux? Here's What You Might Be Missing…

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) are often used to manage reflux by reducing stomach acid. While they can help ease symptoms, there’s something many people don’t realise:

Stomach acid plays a crucial role in breaking down protein.
You also need stomach acid to release B12 from your food.

When acid levels stay low for a long time, it can lead to numerous micronutrient deficiencies — and symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, low mood, and poor immunity.

This is where micronutrient testing comes in. It helps uncover any deficiencies so you can better support your health.

If you’ve been on PPIs for a long time and don’t feel quite like yourself, testing can provide real insight into what your body needs right now.

Send me a message to find out if a micronutrient test is right for you.

Yes, it can be— especially if it happens often and there’s no obvious reason, like a cold.

Recurrent sore throats — particularly in the morning — can be a sign that stomach acid is reaching the back of your throat and vocal cords during the night.

This can lead to hoarseness, a weak voice, or even voice loss over time. You might not feel heartburn, but your throat definitely feels it.

If your voice keeps disappearing, it’s time to take it seriously.
