Testimonial Sunday 🥰 🩷

It fills my heart so much to be part of your families journey.
All pregnancies and births are individual, and should be individually assessed on a case by case basis. This lady had the intuition to understand her own wants and desires, paired with actual factual information we gathered together, and understanding the hospitals own system to make her own choice. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I was sent a picture of this little one when 12 hours before I was in contact with mum to revise all options available to her so she was fully prepared for the next day. And here she was all on her own, after a funny film, snuggles on the sofa with the fur baby, she decided to bring herself into the world hours later!
This is always the mother’s power, birth partner (furry and human) and antenatal professionals can all add to supporting the mother and playing their roles well, but ultimately this was all her. And I couldn’t be prouder 🫶🏼

Content caution ⬇️ not all pregnant women want to read about birth stories, below is this ladies so please decide if you would like to scroll on past or enjoy her empowered birth story

For as much as we plan and prepare for the birth we might dream of, Mother Nature always plays her role. And it’s sometimes only on the other side that we discover why, or what may be contributing factors.
This hero mama got to 42+2 before opting for a c-section. She was fantastic in communicating with her midwife that there were certain hard ‘no’s’ for her, she had brilliant informed care when handing over to obstetrics, and overall a birth that was in a controlled, calm environment. During the birth it became evident baby had no plans of moving downwards due to placenta positioning, something no-one can really know until you might choose this pathway. Should she have been induced like the team originally wanted, she might have had a very different experience which most likely would have resulted with a section or intervention anyway in a very different environment. I’m not entirely sure she was appreciative to me to getting to 42+2 (😂), but overall I’m so glad I got to work with her and her family. And to meet baby afterwards and follow her journey is incredible 💜🫶🏼

Thanks to @ digitalopolis for creating this for me. “Although my birth was not exactly how we planned in the session the knowledge I was given by Robyn meant that it was still such as special moment”

Very few textbook births exist, and that is very dependable to what you think a textbook birth is ! There is no right or wrong, you can’t do this “wrong”, you can trust your body and your intellect will carry that for you. This is why we educate for various scenarios so you feel empowered, and therefore safe and capable 🥰

Here we have a few examples of how by not knowing you have a choice in childbirth could completely rob you of the birth you desire;
Back in March I had a lady told she was only allowed a water birth if she consented to an invasive treatment with no evidence base. Because she had invested in doing the hypnobirthing course with me and knew I was available to support her, she reached out to me to question this statement. Together we gathered some research and asked the right questions, and the health care professionals she was dealing with said it all sounded very sensible and dropped the negotiation, allowing her to birth as she should have in the first place 🤷🏼‍♀️ she went on to have her gorgeous baby girl in a much more positive mind frame (see feedback). This also prompted a meeting with the chair of the maternity voice partnership at the hospital to gain some insight as to why this was the case, which was really positive and I’m looking forward to working with them in the future 🤩

My current lady who is (maybe not so!) patiently waiting to give birth, was told at 39 weeks she wasn’t able to give birth at her midwife led unit place of choice due to more than a 20kg weight gain, unaccompanied by any explanation or rationale behind this hospital policy. She is a fit and healthy individual who has trained throughout her pregnancy with no complications. Again, she reached out to me now knowing the language used around this statement and communication wasn’t up to scratch. I advised to speak to the consultant midwife at the MLU and it turns out this information she was given was actually incorrect. Had she not questioned this, she would have had the option to birth in water at her MLU completely withdrew due to misinformation from one person.

This is why it is so important to educate yourself around safely navigating antenatal systems and learn how to communicate with health care professionals. You have a choice ! You will be put on a standard conveyor belt of maternity care and tick boxes unless you choose to get off. I can help with this, I can support you on your birth journey in whatever form that takes

🌟 April is also Cesarean Section Birth Awareness Month! 🌟

As part of the South Tees Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership, we're highlighting the importance of understanding and supporting individuals who undergo cesarean births.

Did you know that cesarean sections account for around 25% of births in the UK?

While this surgical procedure can be life-saving and necessary in many cases, it's essential to recognize that it's not always the preferred or planned choice for parents-to-be.

Every individual has the right to informed decision-making about their birth experience, including the right to choose a cesarean section if medically appropriate or to decline if it does not align with their preferences or circumstances.

This month, let's raise awareness about cesarean birth options, support individuals who have undergone cesarean sections, and advocate for respectful and patient-centered maternity care that respects individuals' rights to make informed choices about their birthing experiences.

Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive birthing environment for all. 💙

Have you been told your baby is big ? Or heard a statement along the lines that your baby is too big for you to birth on your own so therefore you must be induced?
The NHS states that only 5-8% of babies are considered large for gestational age, and it’s a term thrown around A LOT! seemingly more than 5-8% of the time. It is extremely difficult to accurately guesstimate a babies birth weight when in utero due to the inaccuracy of scans later in pregnancy (up to 15% margin error…that could over a 1lb in difference!). It is also very unlikely your safe and capable body would grow a baby that it is then unable to birth. Evolution just doesn’t work that way. What are your/ your partners genetics like ? Is there a history of ‘big babies?’ Are you a larger person than ‘average’?

Furthermore, if they genuinely believed baby was too big for you to give birth WHY would they then induce you to GIVE birth- it’s a little hypocritical. In debriefs when births deviate away from an initial birth plan, you might be told baby was too large to pass and the hospital ‘saved’ the situation by being able to get hands on. however when you unpick the run of events, it was likely the environment you were placed in, even the being told “you have a big baby” and subsequent guidelines and procedures likely caused the “failure to progress” in the first place.
The point of this post is to highlight that you can choose which information you retain. That not all that is said is gospel, or always accurate, that you don’t need to react with a knee jerk situation when the advice is less than clinical or reliable. Do your research, use the BRAIN tool- what happens if you just do nothing if that sits right with you ? trust yourself, your body and your intuition to what is right for you. And whatever choice you make, that is the right choice for you at that time

It can become quite routine to be referred for growth scans later in pregnancy. This can be down to numerous reasons! To measure a baby bump with a tape measure is very subjective to the person doing the measuring. How accurate are they in identifying the landmarks ? Are you laid differently today ? Or on a different surface ? Has baby dropped and engaged ? Do you have a different midwife who may choose her anatomical landmarks differently ? This may all come into play when your bump might deviate away from its expected curve which then results in you being advised to attend a growth scan
This is of course is life saving in some circumstances&very important to attend should you have noticed a change in baby’s movements or there is a significant change in size.
However, if you have had a healthy pregnancy and there’s a small deviation from your predicted curve, you might find that having a “guesstimated” birth weight can cause some conflicting feelings. The accuracy of birth scans toward the end of pregnancy reduces significantly, with the NHS reporting a 10-15% error margin. That could mean a 6.5lb baby or an 8lb baby ! Which is a big difference if you consider inducing your pregnancy for this reason.
There are different options you can do with this information should you find yourself in this situation. BRAIN is a really helpful tool to consider when making any decisions
B- benefit, what are the benefits of making this decision
R- risk, risk is relative to everyone. You might dash across a road on your own, but would use a pedestrian crossing with children.
A- alternatives , there are always alternatives ! Ask for them to
I- implications/intervention, what are the implications of acting on this ? Will it make further interventions more likely ?
N- nothing, what happens if you just wait it out and let nature do it’s thing

You know best mama. Your mothering intuition will tell you. Gather all the info to help make an informed decision. Seek out non biased support systems to make the decisions best for you and your baby

How to prevent your birth plan “going out the window” when it comes to your birth day!
The art of hypnobirthing comes from practise, the same as the more you practise perfecting your handwriting through repetition, the easier the subconscious responds when you need it most.
But also…your birth partner!
They have such a vital roll in protecting your birth environment, being a team together when it comes to labour and delivery preferences, knowing what to say/ask when it comes to communicating with health care professionals. That’s their job ! Leave them to it !
So as part of your hypnobirthing package with Hypnobirthing Your Way, your birth partner gets their own little folder to pack in their birth bag for little reminders on how they can protect your birth space, how they can practise your breathing with you during labour and how they can take you back to your safe, happy space if needed. There’s also notes on how to implement comfort measures in the form of massage and little reminders throughout.
Take home message: practise practise practise, but also let your birth partner take on their important role !

It is my mission that every pregnant mama to be I speak with leaves me feeling like she can trust herself, her body, and her baby. That’s what hypnobirthing is to me.
It isn’t the promise of the perfect birth (whatever that is to you), but how you feel about birth, how you are able to communicate to those around you.
If you were about to embark on something new, most people might do a little outside research so they know the type of environment they were about to enter. That’s what hypnobirthing is.
In what other capacity would you do as you were told because someone else said they knew best ? Without telling you why in an informed way? Because I said so doesn’t cut it.
Even more so if you had a tiny voice saying “I don’t feel that’s right for me”. You deserve to honour that voice inside of you.

This is why it’s so important to be informed about birth! Spoken by one of the best reminds us birth is instinctive as breathing. By understanding our capabilities, or natural response to bringing a baby into our world, we can keep birth as a physiological process as opposed to pathological.
Medical interventions are, and can be, life saving. They can also cause more harm than good to both mother and baby without relevant clinical justification backed by evidence base and not just hospital protocol. I can teach you the evidence so you can make an informed decision on how you might like to birth your baby, however that may be !
