Feedback from my first ever Hypnobirthing Your Way birth ! This was this lovely mamas second baby and she wanted it to feel very different to her first. With some gentle guidance on her choices and desires and handing over to her birth partner she had such a different experience and I couldn’t be prouder of them all. She did this herself ! I can guide, but it’s her that does the work. Every family allowing me to be part of their journey is such an honour, and this baby girl will be forever crowned as the first born I have supported 👑 🥹 #antenataleducation #informedisbest #choiceinchildbirth #hypnobirthing #empowered
An empowered birth to me is not always a perfect textbook, meeting every birth plan desire birth story. To me it could be that your birth plan deviated away from what you’d hoped for, and you still feel proud of yourself and your body. You feel listened to and respected, you feel like you made your own choices and they were heard and supported. You’d made various plans that would support you should your birth plan deviate outside of your birthing desires. You knew what was happening and didn’t fear it, you can reflect and know there were beautiful moments of calmness. You also acknowledge the piece of you that grieves not having had your birth go the exact way you’d had it planned. You know it was never your fault. It wasn’t that you didn’t prepare enough, but more likely this was perhaps how your story had to be told in this chapter. You know that often our society and trusts aren’t always able to support our true physiological birth needs which can deviate us away from when nature needs us most.
I’d love everyone to get the birth they deserve , in calmness and trust. Our biggest barrier when are there are no complex needs in birth can often be our birth environment and society as a whole. Being informed around how we can use these to our advantage already means you’re winning.

“As long as baby gets here safely- that’s all I’m bothered about”
Firstly- of course that matters, it’s mildly insulting for anyone to suggest otherwise 🙏🏽
Secondly - it’s such a sad society that we enter that honours self sacrifice in motherhood before all else.
Having an empowering birth can wholeheartedly follow you for the rest of your life. So can not being heard, listened to, or honouring yourself for what you truly need in the most vulnerable, life changing moment of your life.
We think we should get the information we need from our antenatal appointments and that’s enough. The sad reality is we really don’t. We get some watered down version in line with hospital policies, which don’t always meet basic physiological needs of labour and birth. Gestational period is a prime example. World wide guidance states 37-42 weeks, however it is most trusts policy to induce, or at least talk about inducing, at 41 weeks. If you were to peek at our local trusts public statistics, well they would evidence what I’m saying.
I imagine most expectant parents will invest in research around the best bottle to use, the best breast feeding latch techniques and guidance, the best formula, car seat, pram etc etc. But what about the best type of birth for you? What will make you feel like that whole trusting version of yourself in that moment of birth? Are you willing to invest in that?
And what even is an empowered birth ? What can you do that will make such a difference in how you feel about birth? More on that next time … 🙏🏽
