Umut volunteered on Christmas Day at Sleights Community Hub and provided FREE hair ✂️ cuts to every.

Official Statement

We were introduced / approached by an individual who wanted to cook and offer FREE Christmas lunch on Christmas Day to give back to the community.

We carried out some dudilligence and we as Sleights Community Hub offered to host the event by advertising, crowdfunding and organising the event.

A FREE Christmas lunch for older adults, carers and people living with dementia.

We raised £820 for the event through donations via crowdfunding and we’re blown away by people’s generosity and kindness.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday 23rd December it transpired the funds had been misused / stolen by an individual who was in a position of trust.

Despite the circumstances and through the power of positive connections, everyone rallied round to ensure Christmas lunch went ahead as planned.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who give up their time to make a cracking Christmas lunch and made the day a huge success.

Food left over was boxed up and delivered by volunteers into the community to those in need around Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland.

We would like to reassure the public the individual has been reported to the police, who will now deal with matters officially and hopefully recover the funds.

Despite the stress and upset caused, this will not stop us doing what we do, its business as usual and we look forward to 2026.

🎄🎅🏼 FREE CHRISTMAS DAY LUNCH🎅🏼🎄

We are opening up on Christmas Day and offering a 3 course Christmas Lunch for FREE cooked by local chef Karl - What a hero 🦸🏻‍♂️

Karl has volunteered at the Moses Project for several years cooking Christmas Lunch for approx. 140 people, unfortunately the moses project is doing something different this year and through the power of connections Karl has been introduced to Sleights Community Hub.

We are offering 40 places to people who are any of the following:

- Living alone
- Isolated or at risk of isolation
- Will be alone on Christmas
- No close family or friends
- Over 50 years old
- Carer and loved one living with dementia

Please see referral form in the pictures with all details.

**No catchment area - Must be able to get to and from Sleights Community Hub independently**

***Any food left will be packed up and delivered to the homeless***

A lovely day at Sleights Community Hub for⭐️The Weekenders ⭐️

We welcomed our new friends ‘Let’s Sing’ from Boosbeck Village Hall who joined us for lunch and provided entertainment with a good old sing song.

We enjoyed hot meat and stuffing sandwiches with roast potatoes and pigs in blankets.

Charlie provided a fabulous solo with Angela.

Switching on the Christmas tree lights, Angela did us the honor of providing a count down and a song around the tree.

We warmed up with mulled wine, cheese and crackers, hot mince pies and extra thick cream.

Terry called in with his magic music box and we all got chance to pick a number.

We passed around the chocolates and went home with a token Christmas pudding.
